Yes. It gives lone parents and people on low wages the chance to 'top up' their earnings to equal someone who already takes a good wage from having worked hard/worked long hours/studied - whilst they pay more taxes.

I am not ashamed for TC helping to pay my childcare. We pay it out in Taxes probably the same as what we receive.

As someone else said - forget Tax credits. Let people earn the money they make.

And as for the lone parent victims - wow, how can you moan? What about the lone parents in other countries who get NOTHING whatsoever from any Government. They are the people I feel sorry for. The ones who can't afford Glasses, let alone afford to top up what the NHS gives them by way of an Eyecare voucher.
I think you'll find we are not moaning about how much money we receive but the fact that people assume because we receive this money we are loaded!
How do you get help with childcare when you are on a good enough wage to pay the same amount in tax?
If you in a partnership get the same amount of help as me who is a lone parent then whats the big deal?

This has turned into a slanging match because op doesn't realise how hard it is for lone parents. We do not have everything handed to us

I couldn't agree more with that comment, having been a lone parent myself. And i wasn't a lone parent out of choice or because i "couldn't" keep him, it was through death.
(I got nothing extra to compensate for the loss of money coming in because we weren't married)
So to the op - don't forget to include the maintenance payments you would receive if you gave hubby the heave-ho

Mate they're those strange payments that show up in your bank account once or twice a year that mess up all your tax credits and housing benefit claims causing you so much stress you blow you're bonus £15 on ice cream just to try to stop yourself from having a nervous breakdown amongst your stacks of confusing paperwork.

AGAIN WITH THE ENTITLEDTO CALCULATOR IS NOT CORRECT. Love the bit about accountancy... You can't spell or add up properly and you expect us to believe you are lord of the manor? I work in "finance" btw because I'm not a qualified accountant either.

Have you read my post about what I actually receive? You are only entitled to claim benefits to keep you on the minimum amount you need to live on. You should do your calculation retrospectively as though you are in year 2 and you won't be laughing then. Any extra is for the FIRST YEAR you work as a lone parent for. For housing benefit, well, PMSL. You would not get most of your rent paid earning £5kpa. You need to check the calculator on the site of your own council for a realistic estimate and even then it is still not accurate.

Some of us, btw, work full-time in the hope we will someday earn enough to actually enjoy life. We realise life takes longer to set up than three flaming years. We also hold out the hope that we will be allocated affordable housing so 70% of our wage does not go on rent. I have half a mind to move my child into a grotty bedsit just to save £150pm. Then again, it would cost me £650 to get out of my lease knowing my landlord and the repairs he would create within the terms of my rent guarantee deposit scheme agreement.

The "extras" are for people on Income Support too except prescriptions and free eye tests.

I'd like to know how you are renting a property for £350 too. I have to pay £650pm for a poxy 2 bed flat. I take it getting up the duff young meant you jumped the housing list and got a socially affordable property?

It's just the icing on the cake. Stop digging.

Please point out exactly where I cant spell (not including where I have put an (SP) after it, and where my maths is wrong, not including the entitledto.com figures.

As a member of MENSA I tend to be sensitive about these things

    Oooooooooooohhhhhhhh okay....

I got preganant by mistake I admit but I think abortion is wrong (made bed, lie in it, etc)

I chose to keep the baby. What good reason did I have not to?

I am glad I've had my kids young as all biological factors point to having children before 30 is advisable (dwindling fertility rates, risk of fetal abnormality, high blood pressure from shouting at people on MSE!)

We rent privately from a local landlord (in SW of England - it's cheap here, and there is no affordable housing), we found the property in the paper as landlord is old fashioned and wanted some responsible(!) people to let long term in return for cheap rent.

I have never claimed a benefit in my life. Not when I was homeless at 16, not when I wanted to go to college as opposed to work at somerfields for £2.44 per hour as there was no min wage for 16yr olds then, and maybe I was too proud. Not anymore....!

I would also like to point out that I had bought a house at 18years, 4 months old.(didnt work in Somerfields by this point!) Fair enough it was with my ex who was totally crazy and I got nothing from the sale when we split a few months later (It was a mistake - I admit it!)as I couldnt afford solicitor or get legal aid, so he took all of the £8k profit even though it was owned jointly.

I don't claim to be anything special, and I will be qualified in exactly 14months time! You just wade in shouting the loudest hoping you get heard. :D

You go on with your "waahhhh everyone else has an easier life than me" attitude and see how far it gets you in life. We've all got a sob story to tell hun and I'm pretty sure mine in full detail would put yours to shame. But I don't come on here to slate entire demographics; I come to seek positive and pro-active advice on how to continue to improve my situation.

BTW MENSA would be pretty disgusted at your spelling and math (no "s"). My IQ is also in the top 2% (well, top 1.4% actually) but this doesn't mean I am entitled to a better standard of living that the other 98% of the population. Things like social skills, empathy and consideration for others are all part and parcel of creating opportunities for ourselves in life. Different people have different strengths and weaknesses with academic intelligence or IQ potential being one of many.

Can't be a***ed anymore. You're an ignorant muppet who despite being capsed at doesn't take anything on board... :rotfl:
