Hello ~ I've wanted to keep chickens for so long and, after finally getting a house with a decent sized garden and a husband with a decent sized heart and mind, I've spent the last six months lurking around this thread, reading & passing on gems of info to my much loved but much less convinced hubby (unconvinced that getting chickens is a good idea in any shape or form, that is).
With your help the last six months have seen a slow shift from "we're never getting chickens" to "IF we get chickens" and then, after long chats with one of his work colleagues who's as seriously chicken crazy as some of you great people on here, he finally shifted to ... "WHEN we get chickens"! So, a few weekends spent preparing their home and now that WHEN moment is tomorrow afternoon :-D
Seriously, I can't thank you Old Stylers enough ~ every time DH wanted to know about cost, care or other chicky issues, I've been able to look it up on here and impart your wisdom, so that we are both clued up (as opposed to our usual clueless) ~ all your tales of copious egg-gathering has certainly helped too, so thank you all, so very much! I look forward to joining in a bit more now that I'm getting some girls of my own!Stash busting 2014 45 / 60 (balls of yarn)!

How many girls will you have?
5 eggs and a softie today.0 -
Welcome aboard habibiboo
I'm still pretty much a novice compared to some on this forum. But there is always a willingness to help and advise from all the regulars.
When your girls arrive it is the forum prorocol that you must post pictures.
Never a dull moment with chooks around.Never put off till tomorrow what you can do today!

Thanks ionahen & syman for the lovely welcome ~ we are getting four: it was going to be three but my OH is so pleased with the run we've built to go with the pre-made coop that he has declared it plenty big enough to get an extra one ~ I see what you lot mean about chickenitis, already!
We chose them on Sunday and pick up tonight ~ an Amber, a Black Sussex, a Blue Haze and a Maran Coucou, they've all been reared together (the Blue Haze and Maran were snuggled when we saw them) so they should flock together nicely! OH is coming home from work early especially so we can get them settled before dark! We are going to name them after our nans 'cos when we saw them they were just acting like a bunch of dotty, but endearing old women (and we miss having our nans around)! I'm not sure his mum will approve of that, but I know my mum will think it's hilarious ~ I'm sure my nan would too, if she was still around!
Will supply you with pics as soon as I can work out how to do that on here!Stash busting 2014 45 / 60 (balls of yarn)!
