Mine also have porridge now it is getting colder. They manage to get it all over each other especially if it is quite runny.:rotfl:They had the last of the elderberries today and the blackberries have all gone. The new girls don't like banana or pear but my older 2 do.(they are also moulting too. Lettie looks quite odd without tail feathers)
They are just getting into pasta. It's amazing how quickly they get used to treats before bedtime.
They can demolish a cabbage in minutes. The slugs don't get a look in.:rotfl:0 -

I was planning to start feeding my girlies porridge now it's getting darker. Well, the little ones can as I'm at work while they're tucking themselves off to roost for the night
I've had a couple of eggs too recently - I'm super surprised seeing as they were moved to a new house just two weeks ago, it's getting cold and they seem to be moultingApril 2021 Grocery Challenge 34.29 / 2500 -
Welcome to all new posting and lurking hen slaves
Well, I'm 2 Silkies down in exchange for an amazing fencing job my neighbour has done for me, using materials I already had and a lot of lateral thinkingThe Silkies will go well with his flock as he already has some and adores them. The remaining flock now have a massive free range area and are loving exploring it.
On the other hand, I have 4 new 16 week old Serama/Sablepoot crosses, a cockerel and 3 hens I think, and they are drop dead gorgeous. 2 are the most beautiful rich chestnut and 2 are lemony buff. I'll post photos asap, I really need a bit of sunshine to show the reds in all of their gorgeousness. The boy is breathtaking, he is bigger than a Serama, has the sablepoot foot feathers and the high chest and V body shape of his Serama ancestry. They were bred by accident but are so small, friendly and beautiful my neighbour and I are going to try to do something with them. The parents are decent layers too, although the eggs are quite small.
Oh dear.... they just keep appearing. And I don't think I told you about the Poland yet0 -
Wonderful Heather. Just looked on Omlet for the breed and saw a lovely one that someone is selling.

It will be a full time job soon especially if you start to breed them and sell the eggs. I was chatting to the veg bloke in the garden centre near me and he breeds Sebrights. I didn't realise eggs could be left as long as 14? days before being incubated. I couldn't understand how they could be sold on ebay.
Are Polands the birds with the big hair do?0 -
Well blow me down.... we have just had out biggest egg ever..
85g and 8 cm wide (eyes waterring) my girls are such soldiers.
The babies are not at pol yet, I worked out that it will be near to xmas before we see our first tiny egg, Mr cluckster the only male out of the four babies is getting so big although only a bantee he is a feisty one but very handsome! Im starting to give mine porridge every night now and really glad I moved them into the plastic shed as the little coup is batterred with the prolonged wet spell. Hope you are all well and chookington mannor's are not too soggy.:TThriftkitten

Gave my new girls a treat/scare today. I put a pile of leaves in their pen. They scattered to the 4 corners until one brave sole ventured onto the pile, then they all joined in. The leaves have been scratched over all day. It certainly kept them busy.0

I had a very traumatic day yesterday.. Now that the leaves are falling from the trees the hedges on the allotment are getting sparse and the chooks are finding new holes to investigate. Petunia got out and was on the rampage from 11-4:30pm, I was sure she was a gonner after being out in the open for so long.... managed to track her whereabouts with the help of local facebookers, contacted the local vets incase someone picked her up and then had a knock at the door at 4:30 to say she was about half a mile up the road..... she had gone half a mile or so the other way during the day and then must of turned round and made her way back.... what a minx, I have tried my best to cover any holes and at the weekend I will go and get some more chook wire to make sure this dosent happen again, but am a bit worried about being at college all day today, she is such an escape artist!!! I dread to think who's garden she had been scratching about in!!! It was quite funny to be able to see her path as I could almost follow where she had been by all the de mossing and scratching she had done!Thriftkitten

my 5 POL pullets arrived yesterday. One had laid an egg this morning! The original 3 cage-rescues are being a bit aloof with them and there's been a bit of squabbling but all only minor I am pleased to say. I love my hens.0

Oh dear Thriftkitten. She needs a ball and chain. You were so lucky to get her back. Could you leave her and another in the pen area rather than FR?
:j Oldtractor. I've just got one of the new POL hens not laying yet..thank goodness. I had 7 eggs yesterday. We are swamped with eggs this week. :rotfl:0 -

I don't have another penned area at the moment as I took out the fencing when I moved them onto the allotment area, the hedging to the left is the only area that isn't wired and must be where they are getting through.... came home from college last night counted them all, 5 brown, 4 yellow/spotty and big momma, all present and correct, was just coming down the garden when the neighbour shouted me to tell me that someone up the lane had brought 2 chooks back during the day Grrrrrr Darn chooks, have been out again this morning and spent a good hour searching for anywhere they might get out, think I have covered everything which will have to do until I can get a day off, working today and tomorrow but off the weekend and brother is coming armed with posts and I will go get some more wire..... it is sooooo expensive to buy. dreading going to work today, not sure what I will come home to!!!
On the plus side we had a very small white egg this morning, so am wonderring if one of the babies has started laying... it's not minute, but smaller than the other white ones. Happy Chickenging peeps!!:mad:Thriftkitten
