A softie can make the hens a bit poorly for a short while before they lay.0

Went to LOOK at some chickens and came back with 4 hybrids:j
I got a light sussex, a blackrock,a gingernut ranger and a white leghorn.
Just off to put them to bed as they were not keen on going in ealier so left them in the pen.0 -

Would love to keep hens but:
- I'm disabled enough for it to stop me trying to make a hen house
- Ditto moving a run every few days around the front medium [STRIKE]lawn[/STRIKE] weedy patch of grass
- Don't drive (eg to physically buy the birds & their house)
- Probably can't afford the feed (though have plenty of veg waste!)
- Definitely can't afford an Eglu-type house!
- The cat might decide to distress them to death's door
Any answers or help with the above would be appreciated. Several family & friends keeps chickens, would love to do it!0 -
Would love to keep hens but:
- I'm disabled enough for it to stop me trying to make a hen house - Coops can be bought relatively cheaply, and are easy to put together. I live in Surrey and would be happy to help put one together for you if you are in this neck of the woods
- Ditto moving a run every few days around the front medium [STRIKE]lawn[/STRIKE] weedy patch of grass - My run is fixed, however i do allow my girls to free range in the garden for a few hours most days
- Don't drive (eg to physically buy the birds & their house) - As above, though you can buy both online. Some suppliers offer a deliver and build service for coops.
- Probably can't afford the feed (though have plenty of veg waste!) - I have three girls and their feed and bedding comes in at under £15 per month
- Definitely can't afford an Eglu-type house! -Nor can I
- The cat might decide to distress them to death's door
- I have no pets, but other posters have said that cats and chickens tend to "put up with each other". When a cat stray into my garden my girls let me and the cat know in no uncertain terms
Any answers or help with the above would be appreciated. Several family & friends keeps chickens, would love to do it!
there are of course other things to consider, such as cleaning and collecting eggs. Would you disability allow you to do this?
