It's crop rot. Serious and nasty. She is almost certainly beyond help but I'll try massage and antibiotics and ask the experts at the place I got her what to do. She's probably too far along for help though. God I feel awful.Living on Earth can be expensive, but it does include an annual free trip around the Sun.0

I would definitely recommend the maggots, possible dipped in olive oil and drop them in her beak with some tweezers if she won't eat. She needs energy and so sugar water solution on a regular basis is required. I would defintely empty at least half a syringe right down her beak. Don't be tentative , just give a big squirt right in the beak."if the state cannot find within itself a place for those who peacefully refuse to worship at its temples, then it’s the state that’s become extreme".Revd Dr Giles Fraser on Radio 4 20170 -
I've never heard of crop rot. Sounds nasty. Poor Miss Williams.
I've now got a poorly one too. Little Sebastian has been sneezing and is very wheezy. We've brought him in and have an appointment at the vets in the morning. It could just be a cold, he has no smelly mucus coming from his nose, he's just got the wheeze and the sneezes (which seem to clear the wheezing for a short while). So, anti-biotics won't help, but they will if he does have a respiratory disease.
Poor little thing looks so sorry for himself and I really hope it's nothing serious because I'm absolutely in love with him.0 -
Gigervamp - Sorry to hear about Sebastian
I hope he "picks up" soon and that he will be back to strutting his stuff on camera as soon as possible.

After all your support I'm so sorry to read that! I hope it's not so but check the crop. One of the aspects of crop rot/sour is obstruction of the airways. At least you could rule it out.
3 claps and the wish that Sebastian and Miss Williams get better. xLiving on Earth can be expensive, but it does include an annual free trip around the Sun.0 -
Regarding crop rot/Sour.
I did the massage thing and it certainly produced a massive belch/vomit/deflation. I kept going and got more out. It's nasty and absolutely stinks. I'll be getting antibiotics broad spectrum and chick vitamins asap to feed her via syringe. She is still alive and we're going to fight it but I hope this has helped with jnfo for anyone else however it turns out.
I wish I'd known sooner so at best this is something for people to be aware of and look out for. It's not that common.Living on Earth can be expensive, but it does include an annual free trip around the Sun.0 -

Seems to be conflicting advice on this. Ultimately the digestive process is blocked. Anything put in is going to worsen it. Even liquid can't get through but liquid based vits with sugar is most hopeful for some nourishment and hydration. She mainly puked liquid which smelled loudly awful. It swelled again within just a few hours so attacking the infection is paramount with hydration and liquuid dissolved sugar/vitamins.
I'm shattered . Have to sleep ( and shower as I got quite a lot of it on me). Thank you everybody for all the help and care, xLiving on Earth can be expensive, but it does include an annual free trip around the Sun.0 -
Oh I'm so sorry to hear about your poorly chickens pickledtink and Gigervamp. Having been in the same situation a few weeks ago i know how you feel. I do hope they both pull through.0

Thanks. It was sour crop and I massaged it and got her to bring up a whole lot of stinking stuff and the swelling went right down but she didn't survive the night.
I went out to give her a syringe of sugar water and do it again this morning but I think she was just too weak. She was stiff so died during the night.
I thought we might have a chance but it was just too late and at least it's all over for her.
Watch out for this one folks. I certainly will in future.
I'm going to check the others over but they are all bouncing about like maniacs as usual so I think they're OK. This isn't something catching.

I am sorry that you couldnt save her. You put your heart and soul into the fight and it just didnt work out. Enjoy your memories with her and carry on the fight.
