He's still not happy about being confined! But he's crowing a fair bit (and very loud it sounds too in the kitchen!) and chatting.

I've not seen him drink anything, although he's been eating and I was getting worried about the lack of hydration, so I cut a cherry tomato in half this morning. He ate all the insides, then I had a brainwave and scooped up some water into the tomato shell. He started drinking the water in that, so I repeated that several times and he's now had a good drink.
I mght give him his Baytril like that this evening because getting it down him using a syringe is tricky as when you manage to get his beak open and the syringe almost in, he flicks his head and it takes a few goes before you can actually get it down him.

But he's not sneezing as much now and the rattle and wheeze has gone, although he was snoring a bit last night, bless him!

Really glad he's improving especially as you went through the whole sour crop horror recently.

  • Folks can I buy a broad spectrum antibiotic anywhere? I want to be sure that if sour crop ever appears again I'm ready to jump in with the right treatment asap!

Don't think you can unless you try a vet. I was thinking the same thing.

Just a quick update to say that my idea of giving Sebastian his medicine in a tomato cup worked a treat! I measured out the Baytril and added some water, then poured it into a scooped out tomato half. He drank it up, and I gave him some more water a few times in his tomato cup.

Yay! No stress for either of us and I can also make sure that he's getting hydration. :)

pickledtink I'm so sorry about your girl, but you did everything you could. As a new chicken keeper the prospect of this happening to my girls terrifies me and I can imagine how you feel.

Gigervamp I'm so glad Sebastian is on the mend. What as good idea about the tomato cup, that's one to remember!

I've just ordered some Flubenvet after a lot of shopping around so I thought I'd pass on the cheapest place at the moment - it's Pet Supermarket and it costs £13.04 with free postage. Might be useful for someone, it's such a waste of time hunting for the best price (I did it at work while we were a bit slow!)
Oh dear, here we go again.
  • Gigervamp- thats great news:). What a good idea! Alleviates all the stress for Sebastian of trying to get the Baytril administered via the syringe. Thank you. I will try this myself should the need arise.

I hope Sebastian has another peaceful night x

The thought of Sebastian sipping his water and medicine out of his cherry tomato cup has had me smiling all day.

Bless him, hope he is better today.
My first reply was witty and intellectual but I lost it so you got this one instead :D

    He's doing well thanks. :)

Actually, hubby just posted a pic here. He's been having a wander around the kitchen today. It was quite funny when he saw his reflection in the oven door and thought it was a rival!
