  • When I say I've wrote everything down I mean every last penny i spend on a daily basis, I've saved by taking my own lunches & I work on a night so not had the urge to gamble either..
I have spent some money but I've used cash when paying for it!!!
It's my daughters 9th birthday today & yesterday I felt so proud that I could get her nearly everything that she's asked for...

I know I'm a long way off but I feel a massive pat on the back for myself!!!
  • Hi Guys
My last post was nearly 5 weeks ago & so much has changed in that time let me tell you.
After hubby had got over the hurt & shock of my stupidness, he sat me down & we talked about how to make this situation better. Just talking made a huge difference & knowing I wasn't alone was like a massive weight lifted!!!

I am now on the road to clearing everything, & my aim is by xmas I will be debt free!!! Such a lovely thing to type & read back :)

I pay everything in cash now & live day to day, & its quite suprising how much money I do have (never knew before as every last penny went on gambling) & the feeling is good...

Had a few probs with closing accounts down (they really don't want you too) but im not getting stressed over it & if I ring enough they will get fed up of me lol!!!!
I would just like to say this site has been a god send & without your input & guidance I do genuinely think I wouldn't be here now!!!

Thank You from the bottom of my heart for all your support xxx

What a wonderful positive post, especially given the original title of the thread. Well done indeed.

    Debt-free and Proud!
just picking up here..hadn't read your diary before but congratulations on how far you have come in accepting where you were but where you need to get to. Its brilliant.

Spending diaries and always using cash sounds a good start and keeping OH in the loop on what is going on..effectively no secrets, has to be part of the story too. I know when my debt was my dirty secret (even though it was joint if you know what I mean) it was horrible. Now we are in it together it makes everything seem much stronger. We both had to change our attitude to money, both of us. In fact, we hope to be DF in 3 days time :T its been a long haul but we will be celebrating together and we will tell our girls why we are so happy this weekend as well..as I truly hope they have a more sustainable relationship with money from an earlier age than I did!

  • Thank You harrys dad :)

brizzledfw that dirty little secret very nearly destroyed my family & my life!!!! I can talk about money now without feeling sick or scared.. Infact I talk about it more now than I have done in the 17 yrs we have been together... Im The 1 saying 'right this needs to be in here or ive put 2 much in there can I transfer some over'

Had a blip in the bank though today, had a pending payment of £19.95 and didn't know why as that account hasn't been used for 2 months, cashier said 'oh its prl score' OH assumed id been gambling & said 'I knew u couldn't stop yrself' & went funny on me, he soon realised his mistake when he googled it, I do expect little blips where OH cant/wont trust me & im cool with that ive put him through some mega stuff.... Your encouragement means a lot!!!

WOW DF in 3 whole days, how excited must you be id be dancing & jigging & shouting it from the rooftops.. High five to you for coming out of this on top you desevere a massive pat on the back & you go treat your family & pay cash lol

Sounds like you have come a long way in a short space of time. Debt free by Christmas as well that will be some achievement.

I knew you could do it, you just need to keep going and you will be debt free in no time.

Just think where you will be this time next year!

I am ok, had an open meeting at GA last night where I got presented with my year off pin, even though it was supposed to be a good thing, talking about where I had come from and what I had been through wasn't all that good to go over again.

I am also considering putting my name forward for voluntary redundany as the lump sum will pretty much clear all my debt. It is a big decision though as the thought of not being able to get a job is a big worry.

  • No I don't like talking about what I did either I'm ashamed if I'm honest, but u have to be proud that you have got this far & if you think taking voluntary redundancy is for you then do it, but it would be daunting. You've come this far so I'm sure you will make the right choice

Hi Muhren, voluntary redundancy to clear your debts would be quite a big decision to make, unless you have another job lined up or think you could get one quickly, which does not seem to be the case. Why not start your own thread on here, post up a statement of affairs with current state of income, expenditure and debts and see what people suggest as the way forward.

Who knows, you could have your own debt free day and still be working too.

Congratulations on your one year pin too, it shows you have the self discipline necessary to get debt free too.
