  • Morning all

So, after a night of worrying over essentially nothing I decided to do something about it! lol

I've realised that I'd got complacent in my contracts which was silly as in reality the one I lost yesterday I knew was going to happen. Fortunately it was one of the smaller contracts so the loss of money, although a pain, wasn't as bad. If I lost one of the bigger contracts I would be up that creek without a canoe let alone a paddle!!

I've therefore decided to apply for more contracts & one-off pieces with the theory that when I get paid I don't account for it anywhere (again obviously to the taxman though!). I have a separate savings account that I don't use as no interest so if I put the extra earnings straight into there I'll build a pot for those months I don't have enough income coming in. I've been self-employed for nearly 9 years now, you'd have thought I'd have done this sooner but as you all know, I've had HeadInSandItis so haven't done a thing!

I've also decided that as the job I'm doing isn't actually the job I want to be doing I'm going to try and do something to get me going in the direction that I want to be in. This may take some time but at least if I start doing something about it now - even if as a hobby or something - then maybe it can turn into more.

On another note, with only 2 days of February left the sky decided to open up and soak where I live so this morning we drove to school. Felt so crummy that I couldn't put the 45p over I put the "loose change" in my account over and felt much better. Funny how we get into these habits! I'm at £95acc for my Christmas fund & I should only be at £70 so that's awesome but I'm determined to get to that big £100 by tomorrow. It will be done!

On that note, I have shedloads of work to do - some for this contract that's ending tomorrow (quite relieved actually as it's soooo boring but don't tell the sensible side of me!) - so better get a wriggle on and do it.

Sorry to waffle by the way! Have a good day everyone x

  • What excellent plans! I've been suffering from Headinthesanditis for many years too. Watching you emerge from it is very comforting. There is another way x.

    Morning all

Well, made it to the end of February and my account is looking ok although the budgets weren't kept at all. I've had a look at my spending and see that I had a few "treat" nights for me and littley which took me way over and tbh, weren't that great treats anyway. I'm now writing what we have for dinner each night on our calendar so that I can keep better control of it. I may even lose my "pregnancy" tummy too!

I've just put some more money across to savings & walk to school fund and will work those out & update signature in a bit. I've also paid some more off some of my debts and they're slowly going down.

Also, I signed up to do mystery shopping after reading some of the success stories on here and applied for 3 assignments this morning which I've been given. I'm really looking forward to it and hope I do a good enough job. Fingers crossed! x

  • Your debts are all going firmly in the right direction, which is great, and you are implementing lots of new ideas, which take a bit of time to really bare fruit. Keep going you are doing really well x.

  • Thanks hon, it means a lot to hear someone else say what you're thinking!

I've just updated my signature and am flippin' chuffed at my walk to school & also the Christmas/Birthday fund. I budgeted to save £35 a month so should be at £70 today but I'm actually at £120 which is awesome. We've also raised £8.10 just walking to school, and that's with a half term in there. So happy.

I've also shoved some money into the holiday fund which is now starting to appear like a fund and not just somewhere I've hidden a few pennies. I should really put these numbers on my signature too but there's so much there atm that I may wait a bit!

I'll also put the mystery shopper money in there and any survey money I earn too. Ooh it's all going on! Got to go do some actual work now then will work out some budgets for next month. Not looking forward to that but will relish the challenge when it's on!

    Have a good day x

  • You're doing absolutely fantastic hun. So proud of you! Keep up the good work! :) :j xx
  • Thank you! I must admit it's mainly down to you guys and this diary as it's addictive and I love sharing pointless information about myself lol.

You're all doing so well too that you're an inspiration & I'm determined to also have a debt gone soon as I want a clapping smiley on my signature too :)

    Have a good evening x

  • Hi everyone!

So today has been a good day. I drove to school which wasn't ideal but that's because I was going out straight after drop off so it worked out ok.

A friend and I went into the city today to do some mystery shopping that I had to do and we ended up having a coffee in the Virgin Lounge followed by a slice of pizza & a cake from Greggs. Although this food won't help keep the pounds off my friend treated to me so it did keep some pounds in!! Sorry, totally lame attempt at humour there!

After taking car park fees out of of the MS money I've earned £15, not bad for an hour's work! I also got to spend some quality time with my friend so that's a bonus.

I did buy my daughter a new top though for a dress up day at school (World Book Day) but it was 20% off so that was a bargain - although it was still quite cheap at the normal price.

Have still got to work out my targets but have only spent a limited amount these first few days of March.

Hope you all had a good weekend and enjoy the week ahead! x

  • Hi hun

Glad to hear you've had a good day! £15 for an hour's work of MSing is very good going!

Hope you had a lovely weekend :) x
  • Your humour made me laugh! Mystery Shopping is an excellent way of paying for clothes and days out with friends. It can keep things cost neutral. Well done, because you have managed to beat this and make a decent profit....... Result x.
