Pay Day Loan Scam

"The first loan only took like an hour or something to get it all done. I was just shocked. WOW!"
That is the quote on their homepage from a person in......... QLD which the abbreviation I only know is Queensland in Australia. All from a firm which operates from Essex.
Problem is people automatically enter their card details in as they feel is the method for repayment for the loan. Mind you the name in itself is dubious.
Banks lend money, not websites. If I was to consider a payday loan for whatever reason I would at least stick to the main players - ie Wonga and Quickquid. Who knows where your card details will end up when using a third party site. If Wonga or Quickquid turn you down then that's the sign to say don't even attempt anymore.0 -
I had the EXACT same company try to take £39.99. I put my bank details in (as mentioned above) with the belief that that's how I would repay. But the bank said they TRIED to take £39.99, but it failed, not sure why though. There has not been any attempts since I got a new card, same SORT and ACC number, just expirey and long card..Save in 2016 challenge!!!
Target - £3000
Achieved - £00 -
I have written to the1loan and in truth have written off the money. I doubt I will see a refund and I doubt my Bank will reverse the payment as it is not 'fraud' (having said that they did once reverse a direct debit payment for me on the back of one 'phone call to them)
If you follow their procedure (written letter) you will get the money back (probably less £5 administration fee) but it will take roughly a month I would guess. They'll do this to keep themselves legally compliant.I am not stupid, not unintelligent and have been using the web since 1992 - they have caught me hook, line and sinker and it was 'cleverly' done.
Having logged in to the 1loan site the only company that they seem to be offering is Wonga - all of the other adverts presented are for bad credit cards etc. so it would appear that they don't even live up to their claims as a 'broker' and I will not be using them or any of the companies they refer to, again.
You're not necessarily stupid or unintelligent, but you were negligent. Fortunately it has only cost you £40. I can see from your posting history that you had this problem before and you said back then:Advice to others: no matter how skint u r avoid payday loans.
Please take your own advice, stay away from credit.0 -
lol just lol, I get these silly emails in my spam filter all day long, I assume yours probably was to but you decided you wanted to get robbed? in 2001 people may not of been aware of all these scams, but seriously, 2014 and people are still falling for it?
my names mr petel from nigera, please send me £100 and ill send you £200 back, what do you say rorysdad, do we have a deal0 -
Hi Rorysdad
Ok so last week this happen to my mum they actually toke two payments out using the name 1lone and ladygaga both for £39. ladygaga and 1lone is the same company. Now the way my mum got the bank to help in stopping this is she called police and made a complaint as this is a crime as they are miss leading people on their site which I will not get into right now. She got a crime reference number and gave to the bank which then the bank issues a hold on these two payments coming out. within a few days she got both payments back.

To be fair to the OP, having had a quick look at the site, it says in the FAQs under how much does it cost,Our loans have the following simple cost structure:
£25 per £100 you borrow for 45 days
£3.91 per £100 you borrow for 7 days
The easiest way to see how much your loan would cost is to use our calculator at the top of the page.
No other aditional (sic) fees apply, what you see is what you pay.
The first line of the T&C states,If you are wondering whether we apply any charge to your bank account upon pressing submit, please note that we do not charge any fees or make a credit check to your bank account.
I also can't see any mention in the terms and conditions about a broker fee (I only looked quickly so may have missed it?).
And also on the application page it says, in the right hand column,Additional Information
Important:
- We charge NO fees for using our service.0 -

At last someone who recognises what is actually going on. And I am sure that all the people posting on here about not being stupid enough to fall for these also know that was is really going on is a scam. Deception. Call it what you will.
And as for the comment in this thread about ticking a box which acknowledges that you have read the T's and C's, I did not tick any box - which means if there WAS a box it was already ticked - which I believe is not legal - one has to opt-in by ticking a box - not opt-out by unticking a box?
In the final analysis as far as I am concerned had there been a prominent notice stating 'It will cost you £40 for us to try and find someone to lend you £200' I would not have gone further...

Yes I pretty much know that would be the case.0 -

Tell your mum to stop looking for loans on the net.
Why involve the police, just write to them requesting a refund.0
