Loss of HD sound after Sky update.

The sound bar is certainly capable of producing Dolby Surround. Regardless, the Op is "more than happy" with only stereo sound.Sounds like neither your soundbar or TV is capable of decoding the true DD signal coming from Sky through HDMI. I'm not surprised about the TV, but the soundbar does sound surprising.
Personally, like you, I'd be muting the TV sound and using optical to receive the full DD effect if I had the Op's set up.0 -

But that's what I am trying to do. I've tried HDMI through the soundbox using both HDMI connections and with optical connected, the sound box shows optical but you get no sound, when you change the soundbox to HDMI using the remote you get sound only if the HD box is set to normal on HD channels. With the HD box connected to the TV and optical only to the soundbar you still only get sound on HD channels with the HD box set to normal. All the different options have been tried with the TV sound turned off.0 -

There are two settings for sound on the Sky box, one for optical and one for HDMI. If you put the HDMI on normal and optical on Dolby what happens?
By the way the no sound issue on my TV happens on all DD channels, not just HD channels.0 -
My goodness me so there is
missed that. Many thanks, all the Sky advice just pointed me to the HDMI setting. 0 -
OP has obviously only checked the HD channels. It's the Surround sound which is muted, not just on HD.By the way the no sound issue on my TV happens on all DD channels, not just HD channels.
I know how to set up a sound bar myself, but all I did was follow the instructions. I'm no expert on advising others how to connect theirs.
I recommend the OP reposts the problem over on the "Techie Stuff" section of this site

where it likely be seen by others who can help further…

It took us two pages to establish that!:eek:0 -
No need now as it works on DD after changing the Sky box optical setting to Dolby.0

I would still be interested in finding out why HDMI doesn't work in DD on the soundbar, although I suspect it's because it's not capable of receiving DD 5.1 which is what Sky is sending out over HDMI.
Sounds like your soundbar is limited to DD 2.1.
You also will have to make sure that the optical is connected directly to the soundbar and not via the TV.0 -

Could well be, will have a look on the LG website and let you know.0 -

By the way, since Sky allowed DD over HDMI, this has always been the way it worked and happened long before last week. The only changes recently have been to set the default output on HDMI to DD.
If you have been using HDMI for your soundbar before this change, then it means you have always been listening to it in Stereo and not DD.0
