Thank you Fortune, thank you Popgirl. This is an odd experience - maybe it's like this when any very elderly person dies. I don't want to say too much about her own experience, but the truth is she was ready to go.
There was an echo in the news over Christmas - Carrie Fisher was a bit younger than me, and Debbie Reynolds was a bit younger than my mum. I'm still alive, though, and feeling better than I have for years.
I'll be doing quite a bit of travelling up and down the country helping sort things out, and I might be popping over to France to support my sister when she finally sells her French house.
The end of an era in so many ways.2023: the year I get to buy a car0 -
Aw KC, so sorry
And sorry to hear about the various administrative palavers too - what a time for these things to be difficult. Sounds like you dealt with it well though. Hope you really are alright, as much as you could be at this time xx

I'm so sorry to hear this Karma (and it makes me realise how easy we had it when my Mam died 18 months ago!)Must use my stash up!0

Thank you Cheery, thank you KnitWitch - I'm sad, of course, and it's upsetting sometimes and then all the hankies come out. And it all happened very fast too, which is disorienting. But we were told right away at diagnosis - you can never quite believe that sort of thing, but it was true. Her GP was lovely, he was really impressed by her, that and the nurses and carers made a big difference.
KW - we had it very easy when my dad died, he needed nursing care outside the house, and all their belongings simply went to my mum. It's different now, and the first time it hit me was when we laid on the funeral "spread" - we used her dishes in her house. Terribly sad, but this is what it means.2023: the year I get to buy a car0 -
So very sorry to hear about your Mum KC - I haven't forgotten how kind you were to me when my Mum died nearly two years ago. Sending lots of love XXXNothing is so fatiguing as the eternal hanging on of an uncompleted task. William James0

Bureaucracy and policies of large organisations can be so insensitive when it comes to dealing with the bereaved
