Hi Goldie! I keep thinking about you, and the countdown that *you* had
How odd about your blackberries and tomatoes! This is the fourth time I've been out, I've got well over a kilo now. I just focus on maybe 4 local bushes, and they're really nice.
Better not do any blackberrying for a few days though: I've just been in the garden to look for Ginger Cat's girlfriend, at the request of the owner, and the garden is, um, overhwelmed, oops - I can't do much in this hot weather, so its a bit tricky ... never mind, I'll do some this evening, when it cools down.
Another session booked in for next week, but I'm going to do it on a day when I'm already workingSave2023: the year I get to buy a car0 -

I totally get "overwhelmed garden" when we bought this property 5 years ago one of the main attractions was the large garden with long drive, I got stuck in the first two years buying, growing and planting up with herbaceous perennial plants, the third year was spent improving the soil bit by bit (heavy clay:eek::eek::eek:) and then I got poorly and it has completely got away from me, OH does the lawns (he did anyway) and tries to keep all the shrubs and trees from becoming total triffids, but my lovely borders are overgrown and full of weeds, I have probably only managed about 3 hours total out there all year before today, fatigue would set in and I would just concentrate on helping feed us and keeping the house cleanish. today I managed more than an hour in the sun, before it became too hot, deadheading and doing a very belated Chelsea Chop to some of the perennials. Trouble is the soil is now like concrete, no rain to speak of for weeks and weeks and the weeds reign:(
I am now 9 weeks into my treatment for the new illness, have been told it will be a few months before I see any real change and have gone a little off piste and having done lots of research re the first illness with the help of the internet support organisation for it, and think, hope, that a teeny bit of improvement is happening:D
You are one of the people on the MSE diaries who are inspiring me to try and do a little more in various areas, garden, clutter, dust, spiders:D etc. I go around the house telling myself "don't put it down, put it away" LOL
Your retirement so close now, soon be able to count the hours:DThe best thing about the future is that it comes one day at a time. (Abraham Lincoln)0 -
Oh Maddie! Thank you for posting, it's lovely to hear from you. I do feel for you, with a long garden and a second illness, that must be awful. My little and often is a help, isn't it
But still, only 3 hours this year, thats tough
My soil is heavy clay too - "slice it and call it a brick", thats mine. I see so much I need to do, everywhere I walk in the house or the garden, but I can't do it all, and as you say, the house has to be kept hygiene-ish.
The thing I'm bad at is that "Chelsea chop" - what a great name, never heard that before! I tend to think I should be kind to the plants, but actually, if you do that, the garden becomes unfit for humans - so I've got that to catch up on, as well as illness, I was anthropomorphising the plants, how embarrassing!
But yes, the little bits really add upof savings, or of work in the garden or the house. Today, for instance, when the neighbour came round, I wasn't horrified that he might come in, because I once again keep the living room fit for people to enter. I used to do that all the time at my last house, and I'm starting to do it again now, its a nice feeling.
Counting the hours! What a great thought! Of course, being self employed, with a large ex-client list because I've worked at this for so many years, that number might go **up** which is what happened today ... watch this spaceSave2023: the year I get to buy a car0 -
Morning folks
well, in counting the hours I've another one to add - but once again I put it on the same day as a session I already have, so thats still two days free next week, and more than £100 will be extra next week too.
Couple of hours work today, as usual, and trying to catch up on things I've already mentioned - and until I actually finish work, I'm totally caught up on the backlog of washing - and there isn't enough ordinary washing to put a load on yet :rotfl: I may faint with joy :rotfl: The replacement activity is shredding - I need to pack everything I can into the bin, because my sister may not have time to help me with foam disposal till I return from our mum's house, and I want as little of it as possible to remain hereSave2023: the year I get to buy a car0 -
Gosh KC, not enough washing for a load?? not sure I've ever experienced such dizzy delights! Well done you! :j
And yay to an extra £100 too :money:
Quite understand you wanting to get foam out of house as quickly as possible, good luck! :j
I thought of you this morning, ate my breakfast in the garden and REALLY need to get out there again for a little potter... even just ten mins can help, but somehow I just don't seem to be making time...0 -
Inspired by you Kc
I pledge to spend some time in my garden today, even if only 10 minutes - the weeds really took hold whilst we were away and I've done nothing about them since our return

Most inconvenient

:o:o I'm not nearly as good at it as my reputation now implies ... yesterday I did half an hour, but today, nothing, though I might do ten minutes this evening.
I was pleased with what I *did* do - took a walk, after work finished, to the local community college, which has an agricultural specialty - chatted to the cows and the chickens, and the cockerel, in particular, chatted backThey're selling eggs from those chickens at £1 a half dozen, and seeing how happy the chickens are in their apple-tree shaded enclosure, those eggs must taste fantastic. I'll be over there next week.
Otherwise, a bit of European diary transcribing (got to the bit where I was rescued by the German border guard from a mad British sailor) and trying to find a gedcom programme (genealogy software - now I remember why I never used it in the first place, life's too short).
Basmati rice and assorted nibbles are calling, hope everyone has a nice eveningSave

Sorry beanie - you know I'm a psychotherapist, right? Its quite an active form of therapy
I have mattresses and cushions all over the floor, and soundproofing foam in an added frame in front of the window's double glazing, plus a few bits that move around as I need them. There's loads and loads, and if I was carrying on working, I'd be renewing it, but as it is, it can jolly well last for another 5 days
