Otherwise, a bit of European diary transcribing (got to the bit where I was rescued by the German border guard from a mad British sailor
)
"Mad" - that's a euphemism and a half...and trying to find a gedcom programme (genealogy software - now I remember why I never used it in the first place, life's too short).
I use Gramps - but it is a bit involved..."Follow the money!" - Deepthroat (AKA William Mark Felt Sr - Associate Director of the FBI)
"We were born and raised in a summer haze." Adele 'Someone like you.'
"Blowing your mind, 'cause you know what you'll find, when you're looking for things in the sky." OMD 'Julia's Song'0 -
They were interesting times, thats for sure. I think the sailor had done too much LDS, like Spock in Star Trek IV :rotfl:
Z, I'd not heard of Gramps, but I've always avoided Gedcom like the plague anyway, it feels very disempowering to have all that information I worked so hard to collate, and have it tucked up in a very specific piece of software. The file I got that I'm trying to decipher actually opened up in Internet Explorer, but one piece of data in a line, and no sense of how each entry connects to another - but I do have the basic tree somewhere else, this was sent for another reason (blah blah blah, bitty little genealogy explanation). As webpages load, I'm working on that document, and when I'm retired :j I'll integrate it to my own Excel file
Of course, since these folks are Irish, its no surprise to say that I've found I'm related to John Connor
Right, today has a big chunk of time set aside for working at lunchtime, resting after that. Other than that, I have to, have to, have to, post the blogs and fill up the rubbish bin for collection tomorrow. Loads of optional things I could do, but those are essential.Save2023: the year I get to buy a car0 -

As opposed to LSD like Americans in the 70's...Z, I'd not heard of Gramps, but I've always avoided Gedcom like the plague anyway, it feels very disempowering to have all that information I worked so hard to collate, and have it tucked up in a very specific piece of software.
Looking at GEDCOM, it looks like it's a file interchange format, rather than software per-se. Gramps will import GEDCOM, and export a bundle of stuff including CSV.
And of course it's free (open source) - because that's the guy I am... :rotfl:"Follow the money!" - Deepthroat (AKA William Mark Felt Sr - Associate Director of the FBI)

Of course you're using an open source programme :rotfl: I'd be disappointed if it was anything else :rotfl:
I'll leave the gedcom file till last in integrating all the documents about this bit of the family, and try Gramps out. Plenty to do till then
For instance, I've been checking out the Liverpool Echo recently, since I'll be up there a lot more, and hey presto, YouGov sent me a survey about itCookies have a lot to answer for.

Big Brother is watching you.
Look for random stuff on Amazon, then 3 days later you'll get an email about it and related stuff. Sometimes not even closely related.
But sometimes amusingly related..."Follow the money!" - Deepthroat (AKA William Mark Felt Sr - Associate Director of the FBI)
