I too was very happy when I spotted a bit of green on a geranium I thought was dead :T. Turned out to be a caterpillar :rotfl:.

    love the link.
Planning a bit of a meadow here - have someone from a conservation project coming next week. Expect ramblings ....
Made it to mortgage free but what a muddle that became

Not sure what sort of a meadow you're planning or its proximity to neighbours but just thought I'd mention what happened to us when our nearest neighbour ( a fair distance away down the lane) planted a wildflower meadow a few years ago. It looked wonderful the first summer, a flowery carpet and a riot of colours, but once the plants seeded it was like a mini snow storm of gossamer-like seeds floating our way for weeks. We're not tidy gardeners at all:o, a lot of our garden is left wild for the local wildlife (it's very rural, we have fields and a copse on 2 sides) but all those dandelions and other unwanted plants which took root and crowded out what few flowers we have are a nightmare every year.

Oh dear! These things can get tricky, can't they .... my mum tried a wildflower garden in her back garden - which is the size of a pleasant little courtyard garden, smack bang in a suburb. Utterly crazy! Watty, yours sounds completely appropriate if you have a conservation person coming out - maybe they can give you feedback on CBC's issue too.

I do watch out for which plants are helpful to butterflies - I let a big clump of ragwort grow, for instance. It's poisonous to horses, but this is my back garden, and I guarantee it never sees horses :) but it does see these huge caterpillars all over the ragwort - thats all the caterpillars eat! So I try to do my bit :)

The to-do list won't get much of a workout today - 3 hours client work, so the most I'll do is a bit of editing of the new book edition and some gardening. That's it! Boring - halfway through week 8 though, so thats something.

great point CBC. I really don't mind annoying the neighbours aka Mr and Mrs Laurel Hedges but don't want it in my garden! thank you very much. It will be more about a meadow for grazing rather than wild flower - so the horses can eat it too.
