when I took it slow, I did fine - made a 96% profit or something. But when I rushed the next one, I failed abysmally, and thats the thing, I know that for *me*, I need to be able to set it up slowly, and go back the next day and check
KC, you may wish to consider the Skae Bet Cheltenham offer. They have the first race of each of the 4 days of chelts as a money back special (i.e. underlay as you're making money regardless of the outcome) It is ante post betting, but they are all no runner no bet (i.e. you can set up your bets now and there is no risk of losing money if the horse is withdrawn from the race).
Even considering early odds, there should be £10+ profit in each race assuming you can tie up £5-800 at BF for a week? It strikes me as a 'slow' £50 for the taking, will be setting up bets for Mrs E and I after the weekend offers are done.
Laddies are also offering a £10 bet each day of Chelts if you place a £100 text bet by the 9th. This would give you a couple of hours to plan each daily bet, I qualified for about £1.50 loss.0 -

Is there a viable alternative to BF for laying bets please? For reasons that still baffle me I fell foul of BF and had my account closed a couple of years ago:o. Even if I could sort it out and get reinstated I wouldn't want to now (after the hassle and embarrassment etc:mad:). So MB is a non-starter unless I can find somewhere to lay bets. Thought you'd know as your posts on here are always so financially helpful:T
Sorry to hijack your thread, Karmacat but I know edinburgher pops in here from time to time and he may see this. Thanks.
Wishing you a good day, Karmacat, whether outside or in. Lovely and sunny here today:j, I hope it is where you are too.0 -
I was wondering about Cheltenham, Ed, I've not done horse racing at all, but those bets sound fairly secure, especially with no runner no bet. I actually have paid work all today, starting in an hour, so I'll have to bone up on things this evening. I'll aim for those races, thanks!
CBC - asking a normal question isn't hijacking, of course not :kisses3:thats fine. I can tell you what Ed told me - another exchange is sm ar kets, their commission is a flat 2%, which is much better :j
Do you fancy Cheltenham?
Anyway, as I say, I'm actually busy **all** today with paid work, which is a bit of a shock to my system :rotfl::o and I have to do my washing up by hand  as Gally is the other end of the country :kisses3: Definitely a first world "problem"
The weather *is* lovely here CBC, thank you, the mist has cleared, all's well. Have a good'un2023: the year I get to buy a car0 -
Have a good-un yourself KC!
I do sympathise with the kitchen all over the place thing - we have just replaced out 30-odd year old cooker with a new one, so the old one is all cobwebby and grimy in the middle of the kitchen, the new one isn't quite as big so you can see that the walls behind the cooker aren't painted, the plaster is still all off the bathroom, I'm gloss painting the windowsill - gah! :rotfl:
Clearly don't know the meaning of the phrase 'one thing at a time' :rotfl:
You sound cheery though0 -
Not meant as a cheeky question CBC, but you are aware that BF run a bookies and their exchange business as separate entities? It's entirely possible (possibly normal these days) to be banned at the bookie, they're very strict. It doesn't necessarily mean that the exchange is off limits! Do check.
As well as the exchange listed by KC, there are M@tchbook and the L@dbrokes exchanges to consider, as well.
So you have choices0 -

Thanks so much, ed, for that info. You're quite right, I hadn't realised that BF ran the bookies and exchange arms separately:o. Also, I didn't even know that L@dbrokes ran an exchange. Thanks also for the other name, and thanks to you, as ever, KC for the advice. Had never heard of the exchange you mentioned so will definitely check it out.
I did some MB about 5 years ago with limited success (limited because of lack of funds more than anything else) but stopped doing any kind of betting because I was impatient for bigger returns (because of debt problems) and managed to lose money rather than win it because I started placing straight bets rather than sticking to MB 'rules'. I'm ashamed by my naivety and won't be falling into that trap again!0 -
I'm sure we've all been tempted CBC, I know I have. Luckily losing a chunk of money is a mistake that most of us will only make once!
Like the MFW journey, it's the thrill of quick riches vs. the satisfaction of healthy, but sensible profits.
I often hear young lads at work boasting about their latest £££ bet that came through. I never hear them talking about the £££ bets that lose0 -
So true Ed. Having been bought up around horse racing I've heard so much about the wins (and had a few myself) but so little about the losses (of which I have had a few too)!Made it to mortgage free but what a muddle that became
In the event the proverbial hits the fan then co-habitees are better stashing their cash than being mortgage free !!0 -
Hiya Cheery, sympathies on your kitchen too - everything takes so much longer when its all over the place! At least most things are clean now - the dishwasher was full (and then some) when I pulled the hose off
so I've had quite a lot to do!
And yep, I'm definitely cheery myself- I may have spells of about ten minutes at a time when I'm not (including when I went onto firecalc, via mrmoneymustache, and it told me I was mostly going to crash and burn!!!) but I have energy :Aand I enjoy the writing I'm doing. I confess I'm terrified of getting another lurgy before the flu season ends, as I get knocked out for so long, but I just have to take care of myself.
My working day today was 4 contact hours (6 hours all told) ... lots of money earned, and lots of great work done by all parties, but oh my, I'd rather be a writer, nowadays, I really would. So tonight, no writing, no checking on horseracing rules so I can matched bet, no nothing except Wolf Hall on iplayer (but I did manage to finally find the subtitles on iplayer, so I was chuffed there!).
I've never been tempted by betting, to be honest - I've never even been tempted by being a fan at a competitive event, my love of Man U. was totally sparked by George Best :happyhear :rotfl:I can honestly say that I've only been in a bookie's once, when 6 of us went along to put 50p on a horse in the Grand National :rotfl:2023: the year I get to buy a car0 -
Excellent day has been had at KC's joint :j
Straight off the bat, a chinwag with the lovely hopefuljoy :j and then thought I'd be at home either relaxing or doing something, but my sister phoned, having accomplished depositing her beautiful French garden furniture at her son's London flat, so we went off adventuring to Wickes builders merchants, for the first instalment of my bark chippings to keep the garden in order. She was lugging about 90 litres of bark chippings no problemo :j and we used my shopping trolley base to get them into my back garden :rotfl: it was just right.
I'd collected lots of my "small electrical items for recycling", and she's taken them to the tip :j and we may have stopped off at a deli to buy lots of chocolate deliciousness that fell into my handbag
Am very happy with my life :j:j:j2023: the year I get to buy a car0
