I totally get it! There's a parish church about 10 miles away from where my mum lives now, where my great x 4 grandparents are buried, right by the main path that leads to the church door. I look at that and it kind of leaves me speechless.
I want to go back to the family village in Berkshire and look for family graves. They were in the village since 1730, and were rather prolific, so there should be some for me to find
Prior to 1730, when my 5x Great grandfather established himself in the village, the family seems to have originated from a village in Wiltshire, which I'd also like to visit.Early retired - 18th December 2014
If your dreams don't scare you, they're not big enough0 -
Which village ?
I am a moonraker!0 -
Sounds great, Goldie. Al - a moonraker? Is that the local description? Sounds tres enigmatic
Lovely walk out, trying to walk to raise the heartrate slightly as per latest recommendations of 5 x 30 minutes a week, but I was out just over an hourI make a point of finding local footpaths, this town has a *lot* of them, they fascinate me. Got hailed on twice, mind you, so I was glad to get indoors. Am reading a bit more MrMoneyMustache (and wishing I'd realised this stuff 30 years ago!) and looking at my local library - its a 50 minute walk there and back, the one disadvantage of my location in the town, and I've just discovered they lend out ebooks! My cup runneth over :rotfl::j I need an Adobe ID, I'll get going on that on Monday
Hope everyone has a lovely evening.2023: the year I get to buy a car0 -
Its the slightly derogatory term for Wiltshire folk.0

you can get an ID for free, and lets face it they already have me all cookied up, so they don't learn anything *more* about me, its just formalised, thats all.
I'm off out for a quick walk soon, to a local village - forecasts are **horrible** after about 3pm today, so I need to get on with it. Very excited - first time I've been outside my own town since early December, believe it or not, as I came down with the lurgy in mid December. So today I'm christening my Senior Railcard :j2023: the year I get to buy a car0 -
Thanks, Karmacat:T
I know what Adobe is, I have had it installed for yonks and use it regularly for reading pdf documents. It's the Adobe ID I'm not sure about, or how to go about getting one:o. Will have a mooch around their website later where I hope all will be made clear.
Enjoy your day, it sounds quite an adventure:beer:0 -

Lovely village, though, with a wonky church spire (and all the good people in there singing, so I didn't go in to have a butcher's), cute *real* black and white timbered buildings, cricket pitch was a field with white sticks in :rotfl: it was gorgeous.
I did have to just sit here under a blanket when I got in, but had a luxurious day, I confess
So, today's list:
- I have to do the banking
- get the fogger ready to use tomorrow
- get an Adobe ID
- take some stuff to the charity shop (I'm waiting to post the decluttering on here till I've done that, people will be astounded and amazed at my decluttering godliness :rotfl:)
- cook the beans I soaked yesterday
- cook banana loaf
I might condescend to do a bit of cleaning  but the biggest thing is to go explore elance properly, to look at freelance writing jobs, as opposed to cooking up my own self employment schemes. I want to keep on with those (because I love 'em) but I need to accept I need a more immediate return too.
Onwards and upwards.2023: the year I get to buy a car0 -
Just had an email from the company that finds holidaymakers who'll rent out the apartment - 30 of the 33 apartment owners have agreed the renewed lease, so they'll take it on again, at the new reduced rate of return. I'm just happy that they *will* take it on :j the hole they'd have blown in my finances would have been ... bad.
Now its good :j
After Cheery's explorations on rightmove, I looked at the French section... ones like mine, in my village, do seem to be priced at about E200k or just under. So if things remain the same, at least I won't make a capital loss when I come to sell, as well as the rental loss.
Both things are a big relief :money:2023: the year I get to buy a car0
