Even being slightly dehydrated can be a real problem, its true, isn't it, Goldie.

Hats! I have one, pathetically lightweight beret to my name, and nothing else at all! OTOH, I have maybe 20 scarves, most of which have been bought for me. So I refuse to buy any hats, and instead, eventually, I'll do what my mum did for me when I was little - turn a scarf into a hat. :D The childhood thing was a disaster, tbh, it was a very expensive mohair scarf, and I'm allergic to all wool, but we didn't know what allergies were in those days, thought it was just me whingeing :D still, the principle was good :j I could even knit one - I have lots of grey chenille wool in the airing cupboard :j I won't, but I could :rotfl:

    DECLUTTERING
    8. picture CD from the Glasgow Worldcon of 2005 - pix now loaded onto my computer, CD is for the charity shop.
    9. half pint mug of the "dimpled beer barrel" type, which I don't mind in pubs, but don't want at home. Off to CS.
    10. Two tea light holders - deep red, so they'll never spread much light, and even worse, they have a flock finish on the outside :rotfl: they look lovely, I still think so, but they're absolutely useless :o To the CS they go :j

Regarding hats, I think I'm turning into my mum.

She always used to wear a hat in the winter, normally one of those furry ones that look like you have a cat on your head...... I've been seriously trying on that sort of hat!:rotfl:

As a child, wearing hats was always quite traumatic, as I'd hate it when the boys would pull off my hat and throw it around!

It's taken me nearly 50 yours to get over this trauma! :rotfl:

Well done on the decluttering - I love the random sort of stuff everyone has lurking around their homes

  • I love wearing a hat in the winter (sometimes of the dead cat variety, but not real fur of course:eek:). Not only does it keep me warm it can hide plenty of bad hair days :j

I keep reading how much of our body heat is lost through the head and wearing hats is advocated for the older person in particular (not meaning anyone on here by the way). I was forever on at my Mum to wear a hat in winter but she was so proud of her hair and was always so stylishly coiffeured (unlike me:o) she didn't want to flatten it! She also would never wear trousers (had never owned a pair in her 87 years) and warm boots, managing with court shoes, normal tights (not thick opaques) and skirts even in the depth of winter. We must have looked a miss-matched duo whenever I took her out in winter with me looking as if I was trekking to the Pole:rotfl:

:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:I think I remember my mum wearing a hat in the big freeze winter, the one where I had to wear the mohair scarf thing, but thats all. The only childhood photo around hats is when I'm 4 - I was allowed to go to school early (I was desperate to get out of the house :D) with my older brother and his friend. The friend has a schoolcap on, and my brother has a balaclava on (!). I have nothing :rotfl:

Thanks! Having moved only 5 years ago, and having thrown out a ton of stuff both before and after I moved, I'm amazed I've still got this sort of stuff around :p

It squishes my fringe so badly (and my fringe is long) I look really, really different in a hat! Must do better.

And this is why I must do better (I know you're not taking a pop, of course you're not :kisses3:

My mum's like that with her nails - she's never been to a nail shop, of course, but she's never noticed that I'm not glued to my nail file :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl: I admire that care that they take, but its not for me

I didn't wear a hat, but put my hood up last week when it was really cold one night. It really heated me up - who knew? :rotfl::o:rotfl:

Thanks for that, Karmacat. I certainly wouldn't take a pop because I'm older than you and probably older than any of your regular followers:eek:.

I want to know, now :o, please pm me*, I've only recently started to identify with people older than me (very Peter Pan, i.e. in denial) so I need all the help I can get :p

    * completely up to you, of course. I'm feeling a bit giddy right now - not only am I getting enough sleep, but also a family thing that was happening up north has gone really well, huge weight off my mind. Apologies!

Why not "of course"? If the cat is dead, it's not going to mind, and if the cat is alive, it's probably glad of:
    1. The view.
    2. Not having to walk.
    3. Not having cold paws.
    4. Your warm head.

    Looks like win-win to me...

    You're reaching, Z, you're reaching :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl: behave!

When my grey cat was still alive, she's let me pick up her up, but the only way she'd stay in my arms would be to drape her front paws over my shoulder, and she'd sit on my forearm. Very comfortable. But it didn't keep my head warm, I must say :rotfl:
