But to pick up on one point you made...what "one tiny bit of info" do you think may be omitted from the results of a soft search, only to be released after a hard search is carried out?

I think soft searches tend to use Noddle (except Nationwide which is why it's accurate), hard searches tend to use Experian or Equifax.

Only the lender knows why they said no on his occasion so I recommend asking them for the main reason. Under industry guidelines they should tell you this.

"You failed our credit scoring requirements"

    and

"we have interpreted information supplied to us by a CRA as being derogatory"

    both being acceptable answers.

    Just bad luck then eh!
Yes, it really can be little more than that or just some factor that they didn't want in their customers. Maybe you pay your bill on time and they don't want that, or don't and they want those who do.

Could be the fact that for your risk profile they have filled the allocation of funds for the next 2 months and you was just too late.

If this card had been on sale back in the days when I worked in branch I'd have said "tremendous" or "fantastic".

But then I'd have been earning 50p or thereabouts for each one flogged.

On the basis that it's top rate available I'd say "great" is a reasonable description. But I'd guess there are some currency hungry Middle East countries that would pay a premium for cold hard cash. I've no idea if Turkish holiday resorts are like this though.

A neighbouring country (my country of origin) was like this until recently, and the one next to that, which is closely aligned to Turkey is like that still.

I've only driven through Turkey, and many places accept card, so I can't answer this.

I've had a CC company refuse to renew a card on the basis I'd cost them nearly £4000 in cashback, without paying a penny in interest, so I wouldn't be surprised.

Get on a plane to Turkey.

    Arrive in Turkey.

    Spend in Turkish shops.

Withdraw from Turkish ATMs. Subject to interest (modest if cleared in full).

Pay the bill in full when you get home. Or sooner.

sorry if i am being thick but moneysavingexpert.com indicates you can get Turkish lira delivered at a rate of 3.61

It indicates if you get the credit card delivered you can then take it on holiday to get the best rate overseas.

It's of little use for collecting great value currency in the UK.
