Declined application from Halifax

I took the advice from the tips on here, I have an excellent credit score from experian (978),with halifax showing up as the best one to apply for 0%.....
Did one of your 'will I be accepted' as they dont show up on my scoring.came back as 90%.....
Went to Halifax, filled out all the blurb,30 seconds later...'sorry you have not been successful'
So now I have a search on my credit history, now tarnished,no explaination as to why, and I took YOUR advice on here!!!!!
Not happy

  • You didn't take any tips or advice from this site because if you did you'd of realised that your score from CRA's are totally meaningless numbers!

    Bit more info needed.

    What's your credit history like?

Other lenders cannot see a rejection - they can only see that a search has taken place. Lots of searches in a short space of time tarnish credit scores, not just one.

how much debt have you got, Loans, other cards, mortgage?

    What's the credit limits?

    income?

Any late payment, defaults, arrangements to pay, CCJs?

Are you on the electoral role?

    Thanks for all your replys.......
Electoral role...yes I'm English for 57 yrs born here
No late payments of any kind
    Income..30k
    Mortgage.10k left
    credit limits.only have one card.....1500 limit...850 owing

So if we have an experian credit score, whats the point in having one if they are meaningless???

And I have not applied for any credit in the last 2 yrs or so

And just for the record,I did take advice from here and no where else, using this sites criteria for application of a card showed me as good 90% with any application.................

So what can I do then apply to another card company?

90% means that 1 in 10 will be rejected.

You are that 1 in 10.

The point of credit scores sold by experian is to make experian money.

The acceptance checker on the main MSE site is based on probabilities. And for every 10 people who are given an indicative 90% probability of being accepted on average one will be declined. It is never guaranteed you will be accepted.

One search on your credit files will not tarnish your reports.

You could try applying for a different card elsewhere - who do you bank with? do they offer a 0% credit card (is it 0% on purchases you were hoping for or 0% on balance transfer).
