The point of credit scores sold by experian is to make experian money.
The acceptance checker on the main MSE site is based on probabilities. And for every 10 people who are given an indicative 90% probability of being accepted on average one will be declined. It is never guaranteed you will be accepted.
One search on your credit files will not tarnish your reports.
You could try applying for a different card elsewhere - who do you bank with? do they offer a 0% credit card (is it 0% on purchases you were hoping for or 0% on balance transfer).
I'll take one more ,once i've made my mind up,or perhaps with your help on here where to go,as I see that some of these card suppliers are all within a group of banks...............
Is Virgin any good?0 -
The acceptance checker on the MSE site is useless in my opinion.
Says i have 0% Chance of any card except a capital one. eventhough after checking on there i got a Barclaycard Platinum with a 5k limit and Nationwide card with a 3k limit both at their lowest possible rates.
So as such i would take these pre checkers with a pinch of salt.0 -
Oh and if your after a balance transfer then barclaycard currently offer something silly like 30 months at 0%
Hope that helps0 -
Soft searches don't take in salary and total debts in neither so it's then when you hit the hard search when they'll see this."You know when it's cold outside when you go outside and it's cold"0

You might be pre-approved for an Santander card, if you log into on-line banking then go to my offers.
Or give them a call and ask. I'm not a fan of the bank but the card services division are better than the banking side.0 -

For example, the Fluid form asks for both employment status and annual income...
https://apply.fluid.co.uk/long-balance-transfer-card/form
And Barclaycard ask for the same...
https://letmechoose.barclaycard.co.uk/?source=ccselecttool-rhbox
And soft searches (for credit cards) do return full indebtedness details. It's just that they don't leave an application 'footprint'.
...would you agree?0 -

Many thanks, I have not long applied to Nationwide,it seems to me that the Mastercard banks use a different system to Visa..
the only thing with Nationwide is its pre approved in principle, and you have to wait for them to send a letter out for ID (which I understand as I could be anybody on a computer)
Then 10 days later you get your bumph through the post....
We will wait and see,I am not applying for any more as two in a day is more than enough ........0 -

See what you're saying and I'll agree with you but what is it they don't check in a soft search what they do check in a hard search.
That's why I said about salary and indebtedness."You know when it's cold outside when you go outside and it's cold"0 -

They're actually doing you a favour by not leaving an application search footprint for all to see.
That's why it's advisable (and Experian say so in their guides) to ask for quotation searches where possible for mortgages and loans. Probably something that's been pushed by the regulators/industry themselves so that you can 'shop around' for financial products without being penalised for excessive searches, ie 2nd and subsequent searches resulting in higher rates being offered due to the customer 'appearing' to be financially distressed and having application fever!0 -
Nothing
I must say though without any true evidence that soft searches and hard searches are no different in what they search I'm still willing to bet they're different in some way if only one tiny bit of info, hence declining people after 90% success on the soft quotes."You know when it's cold outside when you go outside and it's cold"0
