People breaking average speed limits on M-ways - how?

A week later, I have received a Notice of Intended Prosecution from Derbyshire Police. I assume all of us in the Idiot lane received the same notice. Fortunately, the Notice states I was doing 58mph in a 50mph zone. It could have been MUCH worse.
I've returned the notice and await my punishment. My licence is clean and has been for 25 years - so that's going to change!
58 in a 50.
You may get a speed awareness course for that (and your licence will stay clean).
It depends on the thresholds used."One day I realised that when you are lying in your grave, it's no good saying, "I was too shy, too frightened."
Because by then you've blown your chances. That's it."0 -
Not necessarily - for 58 in a 50 you'll be offered the option of doing a speed awareness course, which costs about the same as a fixed penalty and takes half a day of your time, but lets you keep your clean licence.A week later, I have received a Notice of Intended Prosecution from Derbyshire Police. You should be able to do it locally as well, without having to go back Oop Norf.0 -
58 in a 50 will qualify for a course anywhere that they're offered (ie anywhere except Scotland). Pretty much all forces use 10%+9 as the threshold these days - so up to 64 in a 50.58 in a 50.

The last time we were on one of these 50mph stretches was on the M1, all the cars were fine, the worst offenders were the lorries with 58 or 60 mph speed limiters, and who couldn't be bothered altering. We almost got taken out, along with others, multiple times with them cruising up to mere inches from your rear trying to intimidate you out of the way (even in the left hand lane).
Even had some who would honk other cars, like they hadn't even seen the multitude of 50 mph signs, and then tailgate them. Really didn't understand it considering as soon as the 50mph zone ended, all the cars they'd been honking and intimidating would leave said lorry for dust.0 -
When I go through average speed cameras (normally the ones between M23/M25 junction and Dartford at the mo) I always reset my average speed odometer thingy on my car. As long as thats on or below 53mph then Im happy with that.
For example, If I have been following a car at just under 50mph and they pull over, I can go 60ish for a while without it affecting my average too dramatically then drop back down to just over 50mph. Worked for me so far!Slimming World Member - Started 05/02/150 -
You may find that the tachos in trucks are more accurate than the speedos in cars, which tend to show a faster speed than you're actually doing. Thought the limiters on trucks were set at 56?0

Truck limiters set at 56 which is just below the enforcement threshold of 57mph (10%+2). So lorry drivers can cruise through average speed cameras with their foot to the floor, and doubtless get a bit annoyed at having to slow down or change lanes Fir the rest of us.0

That's because the cameras are switched off!"One day I realised that when you are lying in your grave, it's no good saying, "I was too shy, too frightened."

I thought they were all limited to 90kph.0 -
