Steps to take if you have been ripped-off by a copy-cat government website

Thanks MSE Andrea and big chief MSE. Education is important here. And this is a start. This thread has highlihted, with reason that the service providers continue to flourish, at the extremity of current laws. I doubt the law will change, so we have to rely on people understanding what they are paying for.0

Well it looks like the existing laws are starting to catch-up with these characters.

Only an arrest@Johno100, no charges yet.
BoP would argue that no one as been prosecuted yet. Righto, BoP, as always! There is no report of any service provider being prosecuted as a result of their, yours and those engineers at Googles efforts.!0 -
Some more stats to digest:
Post#1 that says these sites are misrepresenting has received 5 'thanks' so far.
While
Post#2 that says No misrepresentation received 19 thanks so far....
After 7 months since Post#1, now, lets see how many 'thanks' Post#1816 that says 5 copycat purveyors are arrested receives... Any bets?
Guys - do you need another mirror to see yourself in the MSE picture?0 -
hPuseless. I used the word education. Yet no matter what is happening, those arrested are bailed on fraud charges which suggest the sites were underhand in some way. As I pointed out numerous times on this thread, the service providers continue to flourish.
How are trading standards going to reconcile this, when today the Post Office runs an advertising campaign for its check and send service.0 -

Does it mean that more believe me, or that my post should be considered of more value? Or does it mean that I could have thirty alto egos, and thank myself?
Or I secretly play Scrabble with big Chief MSE and in recognition, he fiddles with the forum software and behold, another thirty thanks are added!0 -

I really wish someone helped him understand the true meaning of 'service providers'...:rotfl:0 -
Well technically those sites are service providers ... it's just that nobody actually needs the service they provide.0
