Everlasting boilers a shade greener review

  • Just wondered if anyone else has had a boiler fitted by everlasting boilers?
    And what their experience was?
Well I took the plunge, (short of up front dosh don't you know) and have finally had a new boiler fitted by everlasting boilers( a shade greener) and so far am not impressed.
The salesman did his job at selling the system and after checking all the maths agreed to go ahead.
The salesman agreed they could resite the boiler as long as we removed all the fittings/metalwork, hinges and restraining bar, from a small window in the pantry where we wanted it to be fitted, only about 3 foot from where it was currently fitted. And then screw the window in place so it was impossible to open it with our removing all the screws and fitting new hinges etc.
He also stated that the mains gas pipe that came up in middle of pantry floor would be risited at the same time and agreed it was in a dangerous and stupid position, but that it would not be a problem to move it.
When fitters turned up they refused to fit it in pantry unless the window was bricked up completely and would just drive off unless fitted boiler in original position.
As I had taken time off work to get this done as we needed boiler quite urgently, I agreed to let them fit in same position original boiler was to get it done.
3 fitters turned up and guaranteed it would be done in the day, which it was, fair dues.
They also then refused to move the mains gas pipe as was not on their job sheet.
This was the 2nd main reason for giving everlasting boilers the job as the cost would be spread out over a long period and that this job would be included in the fitting of the new boiler.
I called the company to complain and registered the complaint, but no manager was available to take the call and the fitters just refused to do the work.
    Very annoying and upsetting.
Next thing was they broke the flexible cold water pipe to the sink and just capped it off and told me it was up to me to replace or repair it, so was left with no cold water to the sink.
Okay, I could replace it myselft, but even so was not happy about it.
The fitter then tried talking me into just having a cold mains water flush instead of the power flush they offer for free as part of the installation, I had to insist that they do the power flush to get it done even as he was insisting that a mains flush was even better than the power flush, but they did the power flush in the end, you just have to stand your ground.
They were supposed to remove all the tanks from the loft. There were 3 in all, cold water tank, hot water tank and an expansion tank.
They took the copper hot water tank, (surprise, surprise) and the expansion tank but left the biggest, the galvanised cold water tank, guess I am just stuck with it as too big to get out unless I want a big hole in place of my little loft door.
The wall where the old boiler was in pretty bad condition plasterwise so I now have a big piece of plywood fastened to the wall so they had a straight surface to fit the new boiler to.
Is it legal to have a piece of wood directly fastened to the back of the boiler?
    Can someone advise on that?

    Hi,

I apologise for your poor experience, the team that arrived should have done everything that was promised when you signed the agreement. I don't know how this situation has arisen but it needs to be resolved ASAP, please can you email your details to mykel.hedge@ashadegreener.co.uk and I'll ensure that this issue is raised with the general manager.

Thank you, a shade greener rep, but have had Steve, the installations manager come out to see me concerning the list of complaints that I had with the installation, too many to list here.
He has promised that they will now move the boiler to where we originally wanted it and will do something with the mains gas pipe that is in the way and also make sure that all the lagging that is needed will be done, as soon as the brickwork to replace the window is done, which it now has been.
I have emailed and tried calling to ask when the re installation will now be done and am waiting for a reply.
I will keep you updated on what happens next, fingers crossed/

I don't know what planet the installers live on, but they made a right hash of routing the gas pipe from front of house downstairs to upstairs back of house via the loft. They put the pipe in middle of the wall instead of the edges, then it enters the ceiling into the loft about 30cm off the wall. Looks right stupid and certainly not where I agreed with the surveyor where it was going to go.

I'm thinking about phoning ASG / Everlasting Boilers up and getting them to come out and route the pipe properly but I don't think I could be bothered to face their installers again. I might just pay and get a local gas bod to come and move it myself.

The installers were totally disinterested when they realised it wasn't going to be a straightforward combi-combi swap job which took them 2 days to complete. Apparently they had only been told it was a 1 day job by their office.

They borrowed some towels that I had lying around but instead of just giving them back or just leaving them on the side, they chucked one across the room hiding it behind some furniture. Why?!? Also dirty hand prints left on random walls that weren't even in the way, no idea why, good job it wasn't wallpaper as it would have been ruined.

I plan to buy out the contract in a few years time and I would never use them again after this experience.

Also, no idea where my copper hot water cylinder went, one minute it was still in airing cupboard, next it had vanished. Obviously in back of van and weighed at the scrappers on their way home for back pocket money.

EDIT: I don't think they power flushed either, after watching a few YouTube videos, I can't remember them doing that stuff other than just draining the system.
  • i had to share this :)
had a boiler fitted by a shade/everlasting last may(2013) it took 6 weeks to get them to come and secure a 600mm bit of cable safely. apparently the part p bloke was the only one who could do this (even though the boiler was working when they left and no part p man on site:) ) no power flush just a wash through. had to refit a leaking trv in the bathroom as still no fitter after the 6 weeks of complaining ( not part p mans job :) ) but he did look at it and said it was my rad that was leaking. refitted trv myself magically the rad stopped leaking !
anyway, boiler started to play up ( constantly climbing temperature) june this year. 4 weeks to visit. so far ive been told 'it's your shower' it's a bog standard mixer. took it apart nothing wrong. 'turn the boiler down' which did stop it cutting out completely in mid shower. but temp still sailing up to scalding. another 5 weeks later 'it s your water pressure' he called out southern water and left! apparently he had too much to do (poor soul) southern water man looked at me as if i was bonkers, our water pressure phenomenal for the last 15yrs ( we have a 6 in shower rose fed direct with no pump, better than any hotel :) )
anyway called to say it still needs fixing was shouted at and told it was my shower, doh, anyway finally got mr marfleet to listen supposed to be sending a 'qc' today to strip boiler down completely! sent him full list of complaints etc as instructed and awaited confirmation of appointment/ reply :) nothing.
called the office this morning to find out if/when 'qc' is going to be here. no answer and apparently the mail box is too full to leave a message.
anyway im off to contact the financial ombudsman monday, its the only point of complaint in the contract :) and i ll inform the corgi chaps just in case, it might give a little forwarning to anyone else tempted to take this 'hassle free option'
and no i didnt sign the contract on 1st april :rotfl:
  • Well, here is my update as promised.
The boiler has now been moved and the gas pipe that was in a dangerous position is now under the floorboards. Did just have to have the engineer back out to fit a non return valve that stops the boiler starting up every time used cold water tap, but fingers crossed, am now a happy customer.
Mr Marfleet delivered as promised, so if you are unhappy try, try and try again:beer:
  • Everlasting boilers used to send me regular emails after I made enquiries, but the last one outlined an all in central heating package for 6000 pounds. The cost of the installation, parts and radiators was 5000 pounds with 1000 pounds up front deposit to book the system. I was phoned and then passed to a supervisor after the first call assistant didn't or couldn't understand the question. I was asking what was the 1000 pound deposit for added to the system price. The supervisor then hung up. I thought deposits are normally subtracted from the total NOT added. They don't email me any longer. Ed
  • Sounds like there's some folks who ain't impressed ... if so and you're after a new boiler but ain't bought one yet - get some quotes and check online reviews too !

Just joined last month, 37 posts (so far) and every single one of them is about boilers. Hmm .......
  • I had an Everlasting Boiler installed 15 months ago, and they have only just gone and registered something against my property with Land Registry yesterday (I get Land Registry property notifications).

Why 15 months later? All payments are up to date.
