I've been at the seaside today, the sea was lovely, very clear and all different shades of blue. Unfortunately I only got a fleeting glimpse as I was working (very hard, I'm cream crackered now!) I was working so hard I totally forgot I had a chocolate bar with me, not like me at all (shh, remember the diet!) :rotfl:
FORGOT a chocolate bar??!
Actually, I've been (almost) good for a couple of days since I discovered at the doc's that my own scales are weighing about a stone and a half light
. It was a complete shock to see my true weight . No more ...It's no wonder my joints are creaking and groaning.
Lucky you, at the seaside. Yet again, I've had a week off and not made it to the beach. Honestly, I despair of myself sometimes. Having said that, I've got loads done, and most of it was gardening, which I love, so I don't feel too denied.
Today is raining as promised but this afternoon is expected to be nicer, so...maybe the beach for a walk later...maybe...
I have to confess I've developed an addiction to Judge Rinder this week :rotfl:

That happened to a friend of mine LB, the doc's scales said she was about 2 stone heavier than her scales at home, she was horrified. I'm beginning to wonder if the doctors keep their scales weighing on the heavy side just to frighten us
Has anyone even been weighed at a doctors and found they're lighter than they thought? Not me.
Must be nice having a doctor who cares about you. I don't go very often, but if I do I always get told there's nothing they can do except painkillers, which I don't want unless desperate, and that I have a high pain threshold. i may have to try physio or osteopath soon, my hip which went wonky about 4 or 5 weeks ago is still just as painful, not getting better at all.
Time to get off my butt and get something done, I'll be hobbling today that's no excuse

Speaking of hosing down...earth to JKS...how are you doing?...
I love how hosing down children makes you think of me LB :rotfl: I can confirm that yes, they really do need far more hosing down than you'd think. A hose pipe attachment sounds very sensible
They also make far more mess than they should be able to IYSWIM. Not many weeks after thoroughly gutting DD & DS's rooms I'm very cross to see that they're almost back to how they wereIt is so disheartening.
I've not been posing as life has been stupidly busy again & I still haven't worked out which way is up. No excitingly good news to post, other than its been half term so I haven't had to go to work :j Apologies for not really keeping up with the thread, but congrats to Mum2one about being discharged from the clinic - brilliant news. Hope your holiday is continuing to go well & no further hose pipes are needed.
DD & DS went to their Dads for most of half term - they didn't seem very keen & DS has resolutely ignored every text I've sent him. DD says he's missing me terribly & he's very cross that I've sent him away as he sees it. I feel dreadful that he thinks like this - I was hoping he'd enjoy seeing the dog at least. They're back tonight, so I'm hoping he'll be OK when he's home again.
The downside of it being half term & not having DD & DS is that I haven't spoken to anyone who isn't a bus driver or retail assistant since they left. I had a few days away but seemed to be surrounded by couples or groups of friends & I felt unbelievably lonely. I don't know why it bothered me so much this time - I've had every holiday without DD & DS alone so I really should be used to it by nowIn fact its a real rarity for me to go out anywhere with anyone!
I did a lot of walking & stopped off for tea in various cafes - yet twice when I was asked if I was on my own when ordering food & replied yes, I was met with a "what a shame" comment. I shouldn't take it to heart, I know, but it felt like yet more proof that, as a singlie, I'm at the bottom of the pile.
...I want to stay up and watch Rebus on TV if I can stay awake. I know they're repeats but I refused to watch them until I'd read the books, so that the TV wouldn't spoil the books for me. And now I've read the books and I'm ready...gotta do things in the right order
Absolutely the right order Ellie. This is why I didn't get to see "Still Alice" when it was in the cinema - the book is still in a big pile, waiting to be read.LavenderBees wrote: »...Actually, I've been (almost) good for a couple of days since I discovered at the doc's that my own scales are weighing about a stone and a half light

Your GP sounds lovely LB. I haven't been weighed at the surgery for a while, but I know my weight is slowly creeping up. I don't go by the scales, but by clothes & its all a bit depressing. I've turned into quite a comfort eater in the last few years - eating is one of the few things I can do alone when I'm out & about. And when I'm at home night after night then watching TV after DD & DS have gone to bed with a glass of wine &/or popcorn feels like "my treat" at the end of what has been a long day dealing with everyone else's needs & wants before my own. I only manage to watch TV 3 nights a week if I'm lucky as I'm often too knackered, so why shouldn't I have a treat? Not unreasonable you may think....
BUT this year I've noticed that walks I did last year have suddenly become a lot harder, & yes, my back has been giving me problems which probably haven't helped, but I know my weight is now starting to cause problemsSo - suggestions required for what to do instead of eating while watching TV please? I'm not a good enough knitter to be able to knit & watch TV; they're mutually exclusive activities
I'm going to try & stay strong & just have a brew when out, & at work (we all have a cake habit at work).
Sorry I don't have anything wildly exciting to report. Although my plants are still alive, so that's my good news. Honestly, if you knew my track record with plants you'd all be really surprised :rotfl: I think they all breathed a huge sigh of relief when I went away.
Hope all are doing well & hugs to those that need them.& as for some happy ending I'd rather stay single & thin

I wish people would think about what they're saying before they make comments like this. We shouldn't have to defend what we're doing (only going out alone fgs!) but it almost makes it feel like that. I think if that happened to me now I would be tempted to question them why they thought like that, at least it might make them think a bit!
And you're not bottom of the pile JKS!JustKeepSwimming wrote: »I love how hosing down children makes you think of me LB :rotfl: I can confirm that yes, they really do need far more hosing down than you'd think. A hose pipe attachment sounds very sensible
:rotfl:
You know, I don't recall ever hosing my children down, although they were scruffy little boys who were often mucky.
No hosing, but lots of days when they needed a complete clothes strip...like the day DS1 fell in the river...or the day he just took off and ran into the river (never found out what his plan with that, I had to go in after him!)...or the day he covered himself (and sofa and carpet) with sudocrem...or the day DS2 cut himself badly, both him and kitchen could have done with a hose that day...luckily my neighbour cleaned the kitchen whilst I did the hospital dash. I'm glad they're grown up now and can do their own stripping and clothes washing :rotfl:
ETA...JKS crocheting a blanket is easy whilst watching TV.

Hi everyone...it's been a while
I've been finding juggling work and home a bit difficult last few weeks.....which caused me to feel pretty stressed..which then turned into feeling low and generally fed up. I decided to have a trip to visit family over the bank holiday weekend which was a much needed break and has helped me to regroup a bit mentally and emotionally. Things are still busy but I'm feeling a bit more like myself at least.
I need to catch up and see what I've missed

Has anyone even been weighed at a doctors and found they're lighter than they thought? Not me.
Me! The hospital always weighs me lighter than at home. It's the only good thing about going there...
JKS - I eat out on my own a LOT. Partly because when I'm travelling for work I refuse to stay shut in my room ordering room service - I'd rather eat in the bar or restaurant and take a book/ipad/laptop (and I've met some interesting people this way, not to stay in touch with, but just to chat to), and partly because if I'm out shopping and feel like a coffee then i'll happily go and sit on my own.
I suggest you keep a book/knitting in your handbag, and if anyone says anything about it being a shame that you're on your own, make a BIG deal about it being a lovely chance for some peace and quiet  maybe even implying that you've specifically gone out to be alone.
As for the 'eating is something I can do when out on my own', there are a few things to think about.
1. If I'm going to go out and treat myself to a coffee/meal I will walk there. Or walk a given distance looking round the town/village etc before I have my treat.
2. Go to art galleries and museums. If you feel the need for a coffee or snack afterwards, that's fine, but you've done something different. Maybe something to talk about if you do get chatting to someone in a cafe or bar (I try to sit at the bar if I'm feeling sociable, as people are more likely to chat - sit at a table and it's unlikely anyone will join you).
3. Watching TV - I don't have one, but maybe try reading instead of TV some evenings. Easier to do without snacking. Otherwise you definitely need to find something that keeps your hands busy. It's just a habit you need to break.
Maybe next time the kids are at their dad's you could book onto an 'activity' type holiday? A walking one, or cooking, or art appreciation, or literature, or upcycling or similar? That way you have structure, you'd learning, you're not 'filling time', and you meet people and have interesting conversations. You may not make lifelong friends, but just sometimes you meet people you want to stay in touch with. I did a series of cake decorating classes at weekends about 5 years ago, and met some lovely people. They weren't long-term friendships, but we had something in common and it was a fun way to spend my time. I either took the results into work or dropped them off with friends on the way home...0 -
Some lovely and useful ideas, there, Greenbee. Thank you! I will certainly be keeping them in mind for my next free weekend, when ever that is!
I find that I lack motivation when it's just me to entertain and always fall back on my wee hobbies to enjoy. Yet when I have someone else to entertain, I suddenly get the energy to get out and about. This week most of the people I have spoken to, have been paid to talk to me, so it isn't just you, JKS.
But honestly, where does anyone get off thinking it is ok to comment in such a pitying way...?! Trouble is, comments like this tend to come out of the blue, but I would hope I would find it in me to answer quite sharply, and make them think twice before commenting again. Cheeky bu66ers! I'm not in a constructive mood this afternoon as you can probably tell :rotfl:
Anyway, if any singlie is at a loss for how to fill in a week or so, I will have loadsa painting to do in a few weeks time...free bed and board...any takers, just PM me :rotfl:
My heart is sinking at the thought of work tomorrow...new boss, new colleagues to fathom, new systems, new processes...all so very draining...but only 4 weeks to a lovely week off. And that week is going to be full of treats...:T
