    - I am celebrating here, I am overjoyed and having a fabulous time (didn't realise how much DS3's sleeping habits were bothering me - if he's downstairs, the bed creaks every time he turns over, up here I hear his silly cartoons all the time).

I understand this so well, I really enjoy getting a full nights sleep on the odd occasion DS1 is away for the night. Last night he came in at around 1.30am, quietly, but it still woke me up, and I knew I was getting up at 5.30 for work...he's still in bed now, so all right for him!

I can't find an answer to it...after all these years of interrupted sleep I'm sometimes desperate for a full nights sleep, but he's not doing anything wrong, it's just 2 people in one house with different sleeping patterns. And of course me being up early doesn't disturb him, so I don't think he realises how tired I get.
My bedroom is right next to the bathroom (his favourite nightly wander) so that wakes me up. He tries to be quiet, but I suspect years of being a single parent have conditioned me to wake up at the slightest noise.

If you have any good ideas, I'd love to hear them :)

(btw, I changed my mobile number, huge bonus that my ex doesn't know my new number :D)

    Evening all.

No snow this morning thank god. Managed to walk to the bus stop without incident and was wrapped up well with my woolly hat and new scarf. Got to work a bit earlier than intended so pottered about and nipped into B00ts and bought some cheapo C cards which will be put away until next year.

Work was manic today - several times we ran out of plates and cutlery and I was trying to clear tables and man the dishwasher, in the end I gave up with the dishwasher and just cleared the tables whilst everything piled high (well there were 3 the other side of the hatch to me). Boggled by the waste too - why buy a cup of coffee and not drink it? equally why buy a jacket spud with the filling of your choice and side salad and not eat it? Weird.

V.cold on the way home too. Dinner was fridge grazings.

bit of snow, but a lot of rain, toddled to the bank, picked up some cards from cardwarehouse, and a oneies - not back at 43 and being well built, I may not look fashionable, but I'll be warm....

Now starting with cold and chest infection, hoping to nip it in the bud, so fihgers crossed xx
xx rip dad... we had our ups and downs but we’re always be family xx
  • No snow here either.....yet, temp has been -2deg and the frost hasn't lifted for the past two days, supposed to be a balmy 3deg tomorrow so might get some washing out without fear that it will freeze on the line.

Nice reminder about reduced cards folks, I need to get a diary so will hopefully pick up some reduced cards as well.

It never ceases to amaze me how much food some people waste - would you believe despite having 6 adults, 2 children a dog and a cat in the house for Christmas my neighbour yesterday threw out for the seagulls....the seagulls no less, the wings and drumsticks from their turkey, all of the meat still intact  .

The look on my face must have been priceless (a real "I don't bee-lieve it" moment) when I went out my back door and found a drumstick on my patio, one of the gulls had obviously won the fight over it but dropped it when trying to fly off.

I appreciate that not everyone likes the brown meat but I find that a scandalous waste.

  • I give stuff I don't eat to the crows and seagulls, would rather see them get a feed than it go to waste.
  • I was passing a chip shop a few weeks ago and there must have been three dozen in date rolls in the bin, that's what I'd call a waste, giving spare food to the birds, I'd call that good hearted.

  • Morning All,

Glad to see you've all survived the Christmas season reasonably intact :j. Hello NTBT, glad to see you are back! :D

I had an unexpectedly really lovely Christmas day, shared with a friend hundreds of miles away. On my part, there were a lot of tears at times, but also lots of laughter, and I never once actually felt alone. Boxing day was tougher to get through, I think I was emotionally shattered, so cba to motivate myself to do anything, but yesterday, I had a successful wander round the local sales to wake myself up again.

Today, I might go out later, but it's sheet ice after sleety rain last night, so I'm waiting to see if it will warm up a little first. So...a walnut whip is needed to help me wait, methinks ;)

On the subject of food waste, I am only just today able to move onto my nibbly "party" stuff from the freezer...my early Christmas dinner made last Sunday, lasted me 5 days, and there were still left overs to have with salad for 2 days, so I'm finally going to decide what to have tonight...um....yum.... :rotfl: I, too, would have been shocked to see so much good food go to waste feeding seagulls. Were you not tempted to grab the drumstick, NTBT? Turkey soup...???

    :rotfl:

Well, LMMM is using the new living room rug bought in the sales yesterday as something to tunnel and hide under. Everything is a game to a kitten...

    Enjoy your day!

    LB xx
  • Thanks LB.

I was saddened to read that 2014 had been another challenging year for you, life's a b!tch at times.

Even after scoring 72% in Martins quiz there was no way. Having seen what gulls are prepared to eat , I aint touching anything that they have been near, even put my marigolds on to throw it back over the fence

I got my own small turkey from L!dl (serves 4-6) so my freezer is bulging with meat and stock which will keep me going probably through Jan maybe even into Feb :T :T

Whilst I'm in the mood I will go and make up a list of what I've got in the fridge/freezer/cupboards and plan out what I'm going to do with it all.

Hope everyone has a nice relaxing Sunday.

I've been thinking that it feels like a proper Sunday. I remember when I was a child being bored (and frightened about Monday) on Sundays because there were no good programmes on tv, we often seemed to be trapped in the house but not expected to argue.

I think the frost/ weather is keeping people inside. It looks lovely but not venturing out on my crutches. I put the heating on as it was so cold but now feel peaceful, relaxed, chilled, can watch whatever I choose (half way through the University Challenge Christmas editions) or not, still eating simply (lots of 'treats' left).

I am finishing off the year by tidying up paperwork - only a few pages left in the notebook I have been using so tranferring any info/quotes/websites I want to keep (did the phone numbers and advance appointments from the old diary into the new - well about 7 years old but finally letting myself use it after putting it in the present drawer for several years - notebook that I will be using as a diary for next year, not buying if I don't need to).

Found a small cc payment that had been missed (paid early last time as I was going in for my op) and want to find a bill I want out of the way tomorrow and check on another dd that may be going out (will probably get the money back later but would be better if they didn't take it at all) and have another go at reading the meter downstairs (bed in front of it is on wheels but got a friend help me to bring remaining items from the vestibule at the old house and it's on the bed because I can't bend down to things on the floor).

However I am taking it all slowly and doing a little at a time but feeling in control of my own little world. Also making a point of not stressing about anything I can't do including cleaning windows, bottom of the bath (not allowed to use it yet anyway) and skirting boards. Lots of reading, some viewing (still haven't watched the Snowman again but loved the Cary Grant version of the Bishop.s Wife - may watch it again), puzzles (finished the book mum gave me last night, a nice change as they were one of my economies this year - I had to travel 8 miles each way to get one of them and go into a shop that had books and stationery temptations so a modest outlay could ramp up very quickly) and resting when needed.

DS3 is still not back so every day is a bonus.
My mission in life is not only to survive, but to thrive and to do so with some Passion, some Compassion, some Humour and some Style.
