Horace, hope today is better at work.
Well done on cooking proper food with veggies, I'm another one who can be lazy with food when I'm on my own.
Usually I have DS1 here for evening meal, so I do eat okay, but he's away this week and tonight I'm too tired,,,thinking something exotic like chip and onion butty
DS1 is not a happy bunny today. He's been working on the scottish islands and was due to come home today, but all the ferry sailings have been cancelled because of the bad weather. He's meant to be on holiday now, and he's going to miss a long-planned and anticipated christmas dinner with his friends tomorrow.
(I got the text telling me this when I was rushing about at work today...just exactly when do children stop telling parents their problems? :rotfl:)
Not long home from work, stripped off all my wet clothes, fleecy pjs on, flopped down in my chair and put the TV on...well, I tried to, it seems my TV won't switch on any more. Not the best timing. I don't know enough about all the new TV technology to decide what I should buy if I need to get a new one, so it may take me a while to decide what to do. I would like your famous "man in the cupboard" to come out and explain it all to me :rotfl:
So may wrap presents tonight instead. Actually it may be good for me to be without tv, I have it on for background company far too often. Any suggestions for a new hobby I could do?

Work was a lot better today, I had a smashing time (literally) I was carrying a fully loaded tray and an empty coke bottle rolled off the edge and smashed on the floor:o I then managed to tip a half full cup of hot chocolate all over the area where I clear the trays:o
I was given my uniform today (still no name badge so I was told to borrow one - but I don't look like a Pete or a Jo). I wore my charcoal grey and lime green fleece today but when I go to work tomorrow I will be wearing my tailored black trousers, a black polo shirt and my fleece. The message has gotten through about not being able to get there for 7am so on C Eve I will be starting work at 8am and finishing at 12, I am then back in work on 27 December. I will have to be up at around 5am and must get the 6.13am bus on C Eve.
No real cooking for me today - I bunged some sausages in the oven and then when they were cooked slapped them in the middle of some wholemeal rolls and slung some brown sauce on them. I will be having leek & potato soup tomorrow because as I was in Mr S on the way home from work (needed to go in for some knee high tights) I spotted that they have started selling bags of pre-prepared veg for soup (I had the leek, potato, onion and parsley) for £1.50 so I will have that for dinner tomorrow all I have done is added some water to the slow cooker along with a chicken stock cube.
Ellie sorry to hear that your DS is stuck in the wilds of Scotland. Us kids will always tell our parents stuff.
Best go and find a cup of tea (I am parched - I had a glass of water at around 2.30pm but nothing since). Again this is due to the fact that I just can't stomach a drink after dealing with the dregs all afternoon. I was allowed to sample some food today too and had two tiny slivers of cheese & tomato pizza.0 -
Morning all
Soz for being AWOL again this week. It's been another busy one for me at work. Only 2 more days to get through though
I think I am as ready as I can be for you know what next week (unless of course there is something major I've forgotten :rotfl:)
I've got a few visits lined up this weekend to catch up with some friends and deliver some gifts. I love giving gifts and it means I'm finally starting to feel festive :xmastree:
Have a great day all

*Shuffles in feeling quite embarrassed*
re my "broken" TV...how about I just change the fuse?
What the heck is wrong with me? I've been in charge of all the DIY and repairs in my house for 20 years, and I didn't think to check the fuse?!
I'm blaming a tired and fuzzy brain :rotfl:
DS2 called round tonight, and I told him tv wasn't working, and I was planning to see if the back would come off to fiddle about inside (anyone else old enough to remember the days when 2 screws held the back on, and you could replace the tube and fix it yourself?)...and he said "have you checked the fuse?" Doh! I know this stuff!
Couldn't find a new fuse the right size, but eventually found an old plug I'd cut off something with one, so...fixed!
Very pleased, I didn't want a new tv

Well done Ellie on your fuse replacement. Mum gave me a set of battery operated LED lights for C only I need to use a Philips screwdriver to unscrew the battery box (why do manufacturers make things so complicated?)
BW - sorry you have too much work but glad you are sorted for C.
I had a smashing time at work today, it was extremely busy in the caf! so I was having to dodge around chairs that had been moved to make way for highchairs, shopping trollies, bags that had been left so that I could trip over them. I hadn't thought of young kids racing about and I managed to trip over one when I was carrying a tray full of plates, glasses and large coffee cups - what was annoying was the child's mother just shrugged her shoulders and didn't even apologise. I am black and blue with bruises. It wasn't only me having a smashing time, a customer managed to knock his lunch tray onto the floor after he had paid for it, my colleagues cleared it up and gave him a new lunch.
It is totally manic at work anyone would think that the shops were going to be shut for 6 months instead of one day. I haven't seen so many trays of produce in all my life and when I had to walk through the stores area they can barely move for deliveries coming in. The baker had to come in on her day off and she was telling me about the amount of bread that had been sold - she thought there was a famine.
I succumbed to orders from above and have had to borrow a name badge - my name is Jo (but I try and cover up the badge with my apron).:D I had to sample mince pies today and ended up eating half a one, glugged down a pint of water too before I came home.
I am in work tomorrow and then off for a couple of days (days in which to catch up with housework etc). I also need to buy some road tax and maybe a bus pass. The work programme gave me some tickets but not enough so I will have to fork out £57 for a month.0 -
Ellie - glad you got the tv sorted
Horace - hope tomorrow is less busy for you. I know what you mean about the crazy amounts of food that people buy...I've seen similar when at the supermarkets... it's nuts
I've had a good day today and feel really relaxed which makes a nice change....0 -
Horace,
Bet brat type kids being out of control and having to have a nom-de-plume allocated to you didn't feature in your induction into this...
I must admit I hadn't realised people may not be identifiable by their name badges (ie negates the whole point of them then...). I knew a friend whose last job required her to wear a name badge, but it was a nom de plume deliberately chosen by her to hide her real name. However, if a member of the public said that it was "x" they were talking to, it would have been clear who it was. But to have Jo's name on..when Jo is nothing to do with you and they could be wondering which staff member a member of the public was on about for some time before correctly identifying the staff member concerned. So much for M & S (and presumably some other shops as well) policy of "open and transparent and you can identify which staff member you have been talking to....:p".
Back to the season of "goodwill to all" here. Had a neighbours workman "tell me off" about something the other day....(nowt to do with me in the event.....) and only stopped when he could probably see by the expression on my face that I'd clicked "Hang on a little minute....why is a workman telling a customer off? and he's not even my workman" followed by various "you what? cheeky wotname" or words to that effect thoughts there in my mind and he was about to get an appropriate comment back that he would not have liked at all.......
...and there was me thinking "Got the neighbour thing under control at last...." the other day. Spoke too soon....
Have given up hope of any conversation with a couple of my neighbours being anything other than along lines of them trying to tell me what to do!!!!! so just steer as clear of them as I possibly can these days and refuse to get drawn into any conversations at all. Downside of being a singlie woman being neighbours are possibly more likely to "try it on" than they would be with a married couple. Thinks daylight is dawning on them gradually not to do so.....0 -
Ellie - glad you got the tv sorted
Thank you, although I'm thinking it would have been better if I'd had a few more days without, wean myself off it!
I wonder if I could manage a new years resolution to not have tv on so much? Would make a change from "lose weight" :rotfl:moneyistooshorttomention wrote: »

Maybe I'm just cynical, but having worked in places where name badges were required, I think the point of them is to make the companies "appear" accountable, rather than them really being concerned with us knowing the name of who we're dealing with. (Do I really need to know the name of the person taking my money at a checkout anyway?)
I once started an office job and the supervisor was fussing about me not having a name badge, but it was in case we had a "mystery shopper" and we would have been marked down...in other words, just following the rules. Horace's supervisor is "sticking to the rules", even if it means lying to the public, because no allowances are made for a new employee waiting on a badge. Ridiculous and petty system.

Hmm, maybe I should go shopping today, I don't have a single slice of bread in the house. I obviously wouldn't win any food shopping awards :rotfl:

Ellie - You'll probably find that if you watch less TV you'll lose weight by default as you will probably be moving more.0

Well, I'm cooking C dinner today...just because I can....no one to raise eyebrows at me...enjoying pottering in the kitchen, and nibbling the sprouts :rotfl:
Loads of veges, and it'll all keep me going for days as well as bubble & squeak for brekkie on Xmas Eve morning.
I'm at work the next 2 days and then off for a good relax, I hope. I need to do some work today, but keep putting it off. It's daft to do that as it just makes me feel anxious, so after this, i'm going to get on with it...a glass of wine will help, I'm sure. :rotfl:
I'm so glad I'm not needing to go shopping any more. People just get ridiculous, so rude. I was nearly wiped out of existence 3 times on Friday in Waitr0se car park...men in huge 4wds unable to cope with the stress of a rather small full car park. Honestly!
Right...work...I WILL do it now...
