I'm guessing that there just isn't one. I don't have one either. The nearest are either across the river in Liverpool somewhere (£3.40 tunnel toll even before you think of petrol and actually finding it), or in Chester which is a good half hour drive away and is only small. A sort of Waitrose express. If we ever have a full sized Waitrose then I can see myself being there all day just reading the labels :rotfl: Oh well, I can dream.0 -

Pjs on, fire lit, drink poured. Bliss!

Used to be because I've moved. I have a strong suspicion that, if I investigated, I would find the nearest Waitrose was about a 4 hour (or more) round trip away from me now:(. There quite definitely isn't one within a 3 hour round trip now. Yep...I've moved to a "pretty darn remote area", so a T*sco (minus some basics) it is now....:(. Oh well....c'est la vie..... Waitrose stores don't tend to be anywhere they perceive as a poorer area...and yep...this is a poorer area. Where I last lived was a "middle class" area by anyone's definition...but there is no way my new area would qualify as that.
You know you are in a poorer area when people describe some other people as being "having money" and, on cross-questioning, they haven't at all (well...not by any definition I ever use anyway......). Goodness only knows how wealthy people would be described here I sometimes think.....
Anyways...have a relaxing evening....comfortable clothing/drink/fire has got to be a good start:)0 -
Did someone mention chocolate cake?LavenderBees wrote: »The other day, an acquaintance, told me how alone she feels as there is only 5 of the close family for Xmas lunch this year (and she gets on well, and is loved by them all). Before I could think of being diplomatic, I shot back at her "Alone...? when there's 5 of you? You don't know the meaning of the word....try actually BEING ALONE, and see how different that makes you look at life and the run up to Xmas". Anyway, she apologised...
....I was a tad forceful
Good on you for being a "tad forceful", at least you made her think.
I haven't got any plans for xmas, will be working some days and just pottering around on the other days. The big difference for me this year is that I'm usually quite contented pottering on my own.
I won't be alone on the day, I have 2 sons with hollow legs who will require feeding. My parents refuse to "do xmas" any more, so all they will agree to is coffee and cake in the morning. It means I'm in and out of the kitchen seeing to the meal while they're here, and then they insist on going home and not eating with us. (I'm not that bad a cook, honest!) But it's what they want, so can't argue with that. My only sibling lives abroad, so that's it for us. small but okay.LavenderBees wrote: »
Well, better go and defrost the chooks' water, and make sure they've survived a very cold night - 6 here. I fill hwbs with hot water to transport it to the allotment. Someone saw me the other day, and commented how spoilt my girls are...I had to explain that the hwbs weren't for the girls to snuggle up to :rotfl:
Well, I won't be able to get that image out of my head! It would make a lovely card, all the chooks settled on their perches with their hot water bottles, in red knitted covers, of course :rotfl:
Hope you're not thinking of moving them into your house for their xmas holidays :rotfl:
I'm not going to move until bedtime, am plum tuckered out!
Worked an 11 hour shift without a break today. I know I could choose to take a break, but there's just not enough daylight around at this time of year. I don't think we get a fair share of the daylight up here in Scotland :rotfl:
At one point I was driving along a single track country road, which I thought was a council maintained public road, and came up against locked gates. Had to reverse about half a mile in the dark. It was cold and foggy and dark, and I couldn't go home because I wasn't finished work...I think it was about that point I decided I really would like to be a kept woman :rotfl:
Hope everyone has a lovely Sunday, talk of snow here tomorrow.

That's my idea of a nightmare...we're supposed to reverse park at work for safety reasons. If we were meant to reverse, we'd have eyes in the back of our heads, wouldn't we?
Half a mile in the dark?.....:T
Night night

The thought of driving anywhere in the dark fills me with dread. Scary thought having to reverse down a country track in the dark though - Ellie, you are brave.
I heard the weather forecast and it says that it is likely to snow in Scotland:eek: I am glad that I live here and not there because I don't think it is likely to snow here (or it might because I live on a hill).
Feeling rather pooped - time for bed (more work tomorrow - must remember to smile sweetly whilst wishing I could punch some of them).
Have a great Sunday one and all x0 -
Morning all
I have to say the thing I'm looking forward to most about Xmas is a break from work. The last few weeks have been ridiculously busy and I barely know if i'm coming or going.
Quiet weekend for me as I managed to hurt my foot this week so trying to rest as much as possible. Although it does feel quite a bit better this morning - so the rest is helping
I managed to get my Chrimbo cards written yesterday and did so tucking into a spare selection box. I got 4 for the price of 3 and only needed 3 as gifts. So it would have been rude not to eh
Re the W supermarket. I rarely shop in one but if I get chance don't mind a wander. As LB says, I find it surprising that so many things are not as expensive as perhaps perceived. They do also stock different things to some of the others and so makes for an interesting mooch. I tried a round courgette from them this year
Mum2One - I don't have anything else to add that the others haven't already but I agree it seems right to be concerned
Have a super sunday whatever you are up to

Morning peeps - about to go and get brekkie, with tea and my eye drops.
Now I have been given a discount card for M@rks I will use it to get some presents for me and for my friends. I have one really good friend that buys me some lovely things and I am hoping that the city centre store will have the thing that I am looking for. I am not going to sniff at 20% discount. Heck nearer to C I might even get some pre-prepared veg so I don't need to faff with peeling stuff.
Job for this week, get stamps, write cards, clean house and maybe think about putting the tree up.
Have a great day everyone.:D0 -
Horace - the discount cards sounds a really gd deal, when I worked at Safeway (I feel ancient now) we only got 10%, don't know if you have had a peep around but some of the M&s gift sets have upto 50% off ends tomorrow.
Just about to get ready and do an Xmas fayre, last one weve got booked local hall, as long cover table and a few quid profit be happy, thou it will be in one hand and out the other.
Xxxx rip dad... we had our ups and downs but we’re always be family xx0 -
Well, I smell of Wd 40 and hair spray...guess what I've been doing?!
I've also put up fairy lights in kitchen, all 300 bulbs... to replace the two lots less than a year old that gave up the ghost. I also have a mini Xmas tree, bought online...I wasn't expecting it to be as mini...;) all 60 cms of it. I don't do cms. Still, in my incy wincy cottage it looks bigger. Ha!
I don't like reversing down dark lanes esp after my confrontation with horrible man a few years ago. He didn't reverse any better than me but was very aggressive. I drive along a lot of dark lanes now for job so tend to hurtle along using the premise the further along I am the less likely I will have to reverse. I think that logic is flawed somewhere.
I'm already eating my Xmas supplies...
I don't have a waitys nearby, the big T is the supermarket that is nearer. I'm going to shop in the co-op this Xmas though as they have some nice things and I've already made my choice. I'm working over Xmas, if you can call it that, looking after various Pusses. So will eat nibbles and such and have a lovely wine in the evening.

:rotfl: Love it Byatt, I've never thought about it like that before :rotfl:
I've got myself into a few car situations over the years...I'm not brave, just a case of "oh !!!!!!, how do I get out of this?"...and sometimes the only way is backwards
Snow and ice are the worst, i hate snow!
