  • ...JKS, I'm so sorry to hear that your catalogue of woes continues. You really are having a tough time of it. Re: your blocking loo, try to avoid putting any hot water in it - according to my plumber, loos are not made of the same heat-withstanding porcelain as basins, so you could crack it (just what you need - not!). The problem couldn't be caused by tree roots growing into the drain, could it? If so, you might be able to claim on your house insurance? ...

That's handy to know about the porcelain, thanks - I shall add it to my ever expanding plumbing knowledge. Luckily I was only using hot water from the bath, which wasn't too hot, but I'll bear it in mind.

I can't see if anything is blocking my drain as the chap who had the house before me built a patio over the inspection pit :wall: but as everything else seems to be draining OK I'm assuming the drain is still fine. Weirdly all of my drainage pipes are indoors - I can see lots of pipes on all the neighbouring houses running down their external walls, but none on mine. I suppose they'll all running through the odd shaped internal bathroom & kitchen wall, but as these walls have been tiled over I'm hoping I'll never need to get to them :rotfl:

I suppose they'll be less likely to freeze in winter though, so maybe there was method in the previous owners madness.

So far today it has behaved, but I'm waiting for it to turn on me around bedtime (like a naughty toddler :D). DS is quite sad that I've now banned him from weeing in the bath now....

Thanks for your kind words WP - sometimes its very interesting being me (that's the positive spin; wouldn't Alastair Campbell be proud of me ). I did almost get run over on the way back from buying the plunger by an idiot who didn't bother looking before he reversed his car, but thankfully I was quick to hear the roaring engine & moved.

Only one work related injury today - a glass cut so a bit ouchy but happens fairly regularly since I handle loads of glass :D

Thanks for your wise words - I was contacted this afternoon as it appears that there are some vacancies after all and I have an interview tomorrow afternoon at 1pm.

Well, isn't that amazing timing . I hope they are telling you the truth & that there really are vacancies after all & this isn't just a "We'll offer her an interview for a vacancy we don't actually have, then when we say she's been unsuccessful she can't take it any further as it'll be a case of sour grapes & we won't get found out that we're peddling non-existent jobs " scenario. Lordy, am I too cynical?

I can't imagine a decent company like M&S would do this, but I wouldn't put it past some of these help you get back into work providers. A few people I know have had the run around from some locally & I pray I'll never have to use their services again.

Are you being interviewed by real M&S employees in a branch?

I hope that doesn't sound too depressing Horace - hopefully I'm waaaay too suspicious & you'll do well & get a job. That would be fantastic :j & best of luck for tomorrow. Sleep well tonight.

    Hope all are doing OK.
& as for some happy ending I'd rather stay single & thin :D

Horace that is brilliant news about the interview, hope it goes ok.

my favourite place today - the hospital, gd news from the surgeon he is happy with how everything has settled back down with dad, thou we all had a shock about his weight loss, then the gain as when they say kgs doesn't mean much but in stones and pounds its frightening... he went from just over 10 stone to 6 stone then back up to below 10 stone.

The story has broken, made front page of the local paper

we had a bit of a fright tonight - went to gp for check up as back was playing up from last week, so the gp decided that I needed to go to a+e straight away... she rang ahead.

When I got there they were waiting for me, - spent from 4pm to 10pm - i have been checked top and bottom, back and forth, poked, proded, blood tests, 2 lots of x-rays... theyve checked for cancer, diabetics (already have), fractures, - as the impression that the gp sent was it was life or death.

Good news the tests came back clear, bar that I have arthritis in spine, and the part of my spine that I have jerked is the part with the arthritis.

Now go to go back to gp to arrange physio - but I have been asked can I see a different GP xx

We'd better hope they are quick learners then mum2one.

JKS I was a bit cynical too - I had to traipse to the work programme people yesterday to collect various bits of paperwork. The email that was received by one of the advisors clearly states that my interview is taking place inside an M&S store. I have spent the evening and this morning working out the route to it - I am going on the bus and know that it will take me about 15 mins to walk from the railway station where the bus stops but I am hoping that the bus stops a little closer so I shall be dumb and ask the driver when I get on the bus. It is a little scary as I have never been to this place before but have passed through it on the bus. I hope the shop is easy to find...I have to be there at 12.45 so I shall go uber early and have a wander about.

Will come back later to catch up on the news etc and reply better then.

    Hi all

I went to the interview and when I asked the bus driver to let me know where the station was he said that he would ask the next driver at changeover, however, a lady on the bus said she was getting off where I wanted so would show me.

Got chatted up on the bus too by a lovely man from Kent - he was 20p short with his bus fare so I gave him the 20p (he delivered cars for a living and had driven up from Kent to deliver one and was then going to Solihull to pick up a Mercedes to drive it back to Kent.

Had my interview, met some lovely staff and was offered a job most likely at the retail park in Shirley working in the coffee shop. I can froth milk with the best of them. There was a lady in the store who recognised me but neither of us know our names but we have seen each other in passing. She made a point of coming to see me afterwards to see how I got on and to tell me where the retail park was and which bus to get once I got into Shirley. I will get a call either tomorrow or Thursday letting me know exactly which role I would be doing and when I need to start.

Horace - that is brilliant news, and being and being chatted up a nice bonus.

Just made it in time to the funeral thou my satnav got me lost and I ended up on country lane, attempt 2about to drive down a one way street, so I ended up stopping and asking a postman.

For the wake I followed one of the family and I had so someone following me, it was nice and the lady gave me one of the flower displays to say thank you q tears for 20th time off the day. I have found the most lovely pub proper country oldly Worldy pub open fire - it is a pub to visit again xx

Bad day time today and acute attack of homesickness....which, for some strange reason, hit hardest at 11 11 11 (ie 11 am today on the dot) because I am used to "everyone makes their own personal decisions" as a basic Life Attitude, but was out and about at exactly that time and thinking "What the heck is going on?" because absolutely everyone had freeze-framed for a minute or so. I was carrying on as per normal but thinking "What the heck? I'm not in Kansas any more" as per that film.

Made mental note of "Each to their own and some people do their thing and freeze frame and others of us carry on as normal to do our thing" would mean having to bear in mind being on my own in future years here in more rural Wales and then they can "freeze frame" and those of us who have decided not to can avoid it. Then we all do as we decide...they do as they decide and others of us do as we decide and everyone is happy etc etc. Each to their own....which is very much what I have previously taken as how it is.

You did catch a glimpse of "gimme £250,000 on the lottery and I'm outa here" popping up at intervals over the last week or so.

Oh well.....it is what it is and things will come good. I do believe in a personal Guardian Angel/guide/delete as applicable and they have quite obviously been on overtime duty in recent weeks and I am duly very grateful for all the "coincidences" that have been happening to me recently. Most people have been very friendly and welcoming and I've often been told "It will take time to feel at home". You know you're homesick when you'd actually like to see money thrown around like no-one's business (eg a Council that spends money like water or loadsa luxury goods in the shops - even if I cant afford them personally) because that's what you're used to. Right now...I feel a bit "bring on the £1,000 handbags in the shops" even though I personally cant afford anything remotely like that personally...just to show there is luxury/ease/etc around....which has been very very conspicuous by its absence in recent months. Don't know how to explain my point...but its sorta reassuring to think "Well I certainly cant afford/wouldn't even want to pay that sort of money for things....but the fact that some people obviously can gives me hope I might actually have a genuine choice about it at some point.....".

I'm probably not putting my point over at all well....but hope its clear what I mean about just feeling that there are Options...even if I were in a position to choose not to take them personally.

Sending you some hugs Money as you need them.

I know what you mean, the shops are full of unaffordable things - remember that those that can seem to afford a thousand pound handbag probably have a whole heap of debt - I can think of better things to spend a thousand pounds on if truth be known.

Today I gave a chap 20p but then felt guilty treating myself to a cake costing £1. As for looking at expensive items in the shops then I tend not to bother these days. I can be a tight wad and today I was invited to participate in another Orchard for Tesco thing where I get a £5 voucher to use for Christmas food orders or I can use it in store to against their finest range of raw meat. I think I might get a chicken as that would be most cost effective as I can get a lot of meals out of a chicken. I am sure I could find a chicken for a fiver:D

Received some other news this evening my cousin (aged 39) gave birth today to a baby boy weighing 8lb 8oz by caesarean, apparently he has a mop of black hair and blue eyes and is nameless. My cousin got married for the second time in January of this year - choosing the Ice Hotel in Finland. I never thought she would have kids as she is so career minded.

Glad to hear both you & your Dad are OK now - I wonder if the GP that saw you suspected something sinister & that's why you were checked out so thoroughly? Scary thought, but thank goodness you've been checked out & its just arthritis (IYKWIM).

Glad the story made the papers too (but very sad there wasn't a picture :rotfl:). Lets hope it gives the transport service a kick up the harris.

Horace - fantastic news about the interview being genuine & in doing so well :j. Hope you are very happy working there. I'm delighted to be proven wrong about it all - I really am far too cynical :D

Work continues to be difficult with lack of training & support. Another staff member has had an injury (quite a bit worse than mine) & the lack of concern in getting to the route of the problem & subsequent re-planning of how we do certain things is very worrying. I'm beginning to think I need to try & find another job...

Hope all are OK - its pretty quiet on here lately. Is that because -

    a) we're all having a fantastic social life & have no time to post

    b) we're all too busy doing boring stuff & have no time to post or

    c) we're all too fed up with life to post?

I really hope its a) :rotfl:
& as for some happy ending I'd rather stay single & thin :D
