Hi there, can I join in?
I've been lurking a while and thought it's about time I showed my face now:)

I'm 42, I have 2 teenage girls of 17 and 15 and am a long term singleton...been on my own with the girls for 7 years. I never thought I'd still be single after this long, their dad has had several girlfriends over the years and now all settled...but unfortunately I'm not!

I work as a TA in a primary school, which I do love - I've been there almost 10 years. Sadly the money is rubbish and I don't know if I can do it forever! I keep meaning to go back and finish the OU degree I started...I'm a maths geek and love it:) I went to uni as a teen but dropped out after my first year, I've always wanted to get a degree to prove I can:D

Anyway, enough about me - lovely to find a thread with other people in similar situations:)
I really need to sort out a new signature!

Hello :j, and you're very welcome!

Still reasonably quiet here at LB Towers, but all 3 pusses are on edge. Millie thanks you all for the lovely welcome but at the moment, she really just wants to be back in the room she knows with her siblings :(

I have the spare bedroom all prepared for her to go to bed, and be safe, and give us all a break from this tension.

Young-Boy-Cat has just climbed up on the cat tree where she is, and leaned in and hissed in her face. She's a game wee thing...hissed right back, but I've told YBC to sling his hook until he has better manners :rotfl:

He's 10 times her size...bloomin bully :o. Shame he can't remember 3 years ago, and how he felt at 12 weeks old, uprooted into a strange house.

It will all be fine as long as I keep to the supervised visits only, while they are upset, and until they forget that she's a new girl.

On another subject of integration, Bluebelle has emerged top hen without any need to be horrible, then naughty-girl Coco, then Mabel, and poor Maisie at the bottom. I have my eye on Mabel though, as she is one bright girl, and I think she will subversively be top hen as she doesn't seem to understand there is a pecking order, so doesn't stick to the rules. An anarchist after my own heart is Mabel, and my goodness, she can talk the hindleg off a donkey :rotfl:

Cherry tomatoes have been tried and ignored by my girls, as have strawberries. Fussy or what?!

BIG DIET starts tomorrow :(. Got to be done - that's me, not the girls :rotfl:. Wish me luck!

    Sweet dreams all

    LB xx

Been MIA for quite a while as life has been quite hectic. I've been having a new kitchen put in which has dragged on quite a while. Main units were put in, electrics and plastering done. Then have had to wait several weeks to get floor down. It's done now though and being decorated today and tomorrow. Each day as the workman left the cat was straight in inspecting everything. He has been quite good with the upheaval. Though when I move stuff back out today for the decorator I can imagine what he is thinking.

I've also been doing a bit of extra time at my vol job. I'm a meeter and greeter and work in A&E too which I love. Got a lovely surprise. I have been nominated and short listed for a volunteer of the year award with the trust. It's a week on Friday at the Marriot hotel so could I ask for some fingers crossed please.

Comfort eating is something I do regular. However since finding out about going to this do I've lost a bit weight. Just by trying to eat healthily and walking. Need to get into my good trousers. Having the odd treat. Oh and smaller portions. It's evenings with me or if the weather is miserable.

LB Love your chicken comments and oh a kitten. I'm sure they will all be fine.

Calicocat I do hope work is not too bad for you. Have you seen the cats at the shop recently?

Ozzy is waking me at 5ish every morning. For some strange reason he settles again if I get out of bed and tootle downstairs. Strange boy.

Morning, Boddy, nice to see you back. Glad your kitchen is getting sorted. Bet it looks great!

I've been awake since 4.30am, so have allowed kitten out to be viewed and followed by the big boys. A bit of hissing and growling, but nothing to worry about at this stage, thank goodness. Millie has done a lovely kitten sized poo...always a relief to see the first one :rotfl:

So, we've had romps, and growling, and now she's dropping off to sleep on the back of the sofa, so I'll try to nab her and settle her on my knee for a few minutes, and then she can go back in her room for a proper rest.

Back to work today as we don't seem to have won the lottery :(

    Have a good'un today

Hope Millie soon settles in okay and your other cats accept her okay.

What is it with this "pecking order" malarkey? Good for Mabel Hen that she refuses to acknowledge there is such a thing. Guess there's pecking orders everywhere (a fact that takes a long time to dawn on some of us:rotfl:) and I'd agree with Mabel's assessment that the best way to deal with them is to pretend they don't exist:rotfl:. She coulda tried the "bowing and scraping" and "if it please you your honour may I kindly be allowed my place at the table and my share" but she's steamed right on in there and is expecting acceptance/her fair share by the sound of it. You go Mabel Hennie...

Boddy - congratulations at nearly having achieved New Kitchendom at last.
  • LB - If Millie is missing her brother and sister you could always ...

    Sorry!

I know the thing about kitten poos. I'm watching the output of my boys with an eagle eye at the moment (and will be so relieved when their tummies are settled down).

Love to hear the chicken stories. Go Mabel!

Em....no, I couldn't....:rotfl:Nightmare...3 cats is enough to complete my little family...but if I had a smallholding with a few acres, then yes, I could have and would have.... :)

But turns out we haven't won the lottery despite my high hopes, so... as you were then, back to the daily grind. And my, what a daily grind it is...more than a tad depressing here at the mo. Strange how people can be losing their jobs, yet the redundancy word is never used... it's all restructure...but we all know and are seeing the results of that.

    :(

The only good thing is that this is a shorter week. :T

That's great..well done. Fingers will be crossed, I hope you win.

    Nice to see you back.

Last time I drove past the shop (last thursday) they weren't aabout...but it was teaming it down. Next time I see then i'll try and get a photo, send it to LB, and she can the put it on thread....if she can remember how. I can't do it from the mobile.
Yep...still at it, working out how to retire early.:D....... Going to have to rethink that scenario as have been screwed over by the company. A work in progress.

Lots of good news from you all in the main. Sorry to hear LB that things aren't good at work just now but you have your new family to focus on. I think I'll start using "Go Mabel, go" instead of "Run Forest, run" :D

Welcome Pixiechick, I'm in the same position as you but 10 years older and with younger children, DD 16 and DS13. My medical records from both pregnancies labelled me as an "elderly primigravida” (older first time mum/geriatric mother ). Ex married last year (having been engaged 4 times in the last 10 years). I take a considerable amount of pride in (I hope) trying to do a great job bringing DD and DS up decently, there'll be plenty of time for me when they're finally off my hands - then I can swap them for chickens and more cats! I suspect I'm going to become one of those old ladies with a houseful of cats :rotfl:.

Ninja cat is black with lopsided white markings on his face and white feet (hence his real name, Mittens), he also has glossy white eyebrows and whiskers to rival Captain Birdseye :D. He is also now known as Dog Cat because he's taken to jumping up at you and padding your legs with his front paws, as well as growling instead of purring... Princess Aurora continues to behave like a proper cat and (when she'd not sitting expecting to be waited on hand and foot) wraps herself around your legs like a proper cat should. Can't believe we've had them for almost a year.

DS has a friend coming round this afternoon to do science revision for their GCSE, DS on the other hand is being a little more chilled and wants to get a new game for the Xbox. I just want chocolate :D.

Hope everyone has a good day.

Just a quick post as I think it's funny.....

Work was quiet on the grand scheme of things so had some time to google.......now have about 50 pages to read on how to get yourself made redundant....lol.

Only had a quick read as printing it all off, however some of it sounds a bit dodgey and more like how to get yourself fired....eg:...become a bum at work, go sick lots, be late all the time, have a dismal attitude.......(that one I may have had recently)....in actual fact, just stop doing your Job whilst you are still doing it....lol.

So i've got a possible if we are supposedly lucky 2 years to completely ruin any reference for a future job....but achieve the redundancy goal.....hmmmm
