Tesco multibuy instore policy?

On Tesco website it says that there is no limit to the number of an item that can be purchased instore unless it clearly states a limit on the shelf. It also says that bulk buy orders can be placed at Tesco Direct desk. Yet I have just been banned for the sale weekend by my local Tescohome as they have been 'watching me for a while and I am visiting the shop too often and specifically buying reduced items in bulk'! I am a member of this site and HUKD and occasionally will be lucky enough to find misprices or reduced items instore, eg: I recently bought 4 Thomas scooters and week later 6 Sofia dolls, and some of the reduced duvet sets. The Manager said he could ban me permanently if he chose for bulk buying. I have a very large extended family with lots of children under 12 so am constantly looking for toys to put away (not only as gifts from myself but from my elderly parents and my Brother who works away so I have to do his gift shopping too!). Its ridiculous as in the past two weeks I've also bought a £350 TV, a £40 microwave, a £60 bike, £50 worth of games, steam iron, various bits and bobs, and was actually planning on buying a £399 laptop! I think 70% of all items in my house are from Tesco from the lawnmower to the knives and forks! It's my favourite shop and the one I shop at the most via Direct and instore, I even have a Tesco mobile and tariff! It's literally 5 minutes away from me so will often pop in 2 or 3 times a week for a wander round. The staff often make snide remarks which I've never really understood until now, as there are no self scanners I've always put it down to asking them to price check things for me. I would describe myself as a very loyal customer and rarely shop anywhere else, yet I'm treated like some sort of criminal! Has anyone experienced anything similar, would it be worth contacting Head Office or would that just result in a permanent ban if it came back to the Manager?

Whilst I sympathize with your plight unfortunately businesses can refuse your custom for any reason they see fit and don't have to give an explanation either.0

But what about Tescos own policy stated on their website, can a Manager go directly against it?0

If it says that bulk purchases can be made at the Tesco Direct desk, have you been doing that (if you have been buying in bulk that is)?0

One thing they can ban you for are your 'shopping habits'. If they are suspicious and have been using resources watching you for sometime they may feel it would be easier to just ban you.:j Trytryagain FLYLADY - SAYE £700 each month Premium Bonds £713 Mortgage Was £100,000@20/6/08 now zilch 21/4/15:beer: WTL - 52 (I'll do it 4 MUM)0

A friend of mine would get rude comments from staff in his local Tesco. He lived opposite so bought his food daily, but always picked up the reduced food late at night.
He was a real cheap skate, but there is still no excuse for the staff behaviour. I guess teenagers will act immature though.0 -
Seems strange that they chose to do this to you when I have seen people buying in bulk 10 cabbages 15 loaves of bread 20 coca cola and loads of other stuff that are for stocking in their corner shop.Comp wins 2013:160 finish quantum tabs, 2xtickets private screening of prisoners(Jake n Hugh 2)

Definitely contact head office for a proper explanation (and report back
). It would be nice to know if Tesco have some coherent policy on this or if it's just one manager being bolshy.
Do try and use paragraphs when you write to them, though. There are two types of people in the world: Those that can extrapolate information.0 -

I suspect they don't all get the staff to price check everything first looking for a misprice that he can take advantage of.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. So effectively, your local store are considering banning you because the manager doesn't like the way you shop there. Seems to me they could spend their time much more productively by focusing on shoplifters instead!
I'd be inclined to ask Head Office (politely) for an explanation as to what the organisations policy is regarding your shopping habits (I expect your clubcard number will be more than enough for them to take a look), and what they feel the problem is because you don't want to upset the local manager further, but don't understand the problem.
Maybe the staff are just getting fed up with you asking them to price check, not a 'banning' offence, that's part of their job.Seen it all, done it all, can't remember most of it.0
