But what about Tescos own policy stated on their website, can a Manager go directly against it?

If the manager is breaching their own policy that is a matter for them and their line management to work out (possibly a disciplinary matter- although in this case I doubt that would happen). It isn't like when a public authority (council/police) breach their published policies and you can legally challenge their decisions and get them overturned.

If you're really concerned about it then you could of course contact head office and they might choose to change the manager's decision. Or, if they think the manager was right to act as they have and that due to you exploiting missprices etc they don't want your custom any more (because you are not a profitable customer to have) you could find yourself outright banned. It's a risk you take.

Sorry but I wish Tesco and the rest of the supermarkets would have a word with the people who clear the shelves of things leaving little for anyone else.

4 Thomas scooters and 6 of the same Sofia doll? So that's 10 children practically the same age? Hmmmm
There's a storm coming, Mr Johnson. You and your friends better batten down the hatches, because when it hits, you're all gonna wonder how you ever thought you could live so large and leave so little for the rest of us.

Tesco have to balance one customer who bulks buys and other customers who miss out on the bargains - due to one customer.

It seems they have come down on the side of the many rather than the one.

On the other hand, why should 'the many' expect bargains to be left on the shelves for when they deign to visit.

OP sounds like an avid bargain hunter & spends a lot of time on it, if he/she beats me to the bargains and buys them all its fair game IMO. We snapped up 3 bottles of less than half price Port right after Xmas, I couldn't give a stuff about anyone who chose NOT to go and look for bargains, they can go in their own time and pay full price!

I suppose there could be '1, 2 or 3 per customer' rule applied to stuff, which might make it fairer, but that would be difficult to enforce as customer could just go out and back in again.

I suppose the only FAIR result should be whatever Tesco general storewide policy is, not what the individual manager chooses.
Seen it all, done it all, can't remember most of it.

I suppose because supermarkets have special deals to intice lots of customers in.

Not so people - including people from corner shops as well as bulk buyers such as the OP - clear the shelves before they get a chance.

How Tesco sell is up to them.

Managers should be given latitude to modify policy (within bounds) since they will be more aware of local customer feeling, rather than some faceless policy maker at head office.

Especially in the case were corner shops are clearing them out of stock.
