Just had some interesting correspondence from Ebay regarding "selling of feedback" and "selling of links", having reported about 40, which have thankfully now been removed or ended early.
For my efforts I received the following responses.
"Selling of Feedback -
EBay policy prohibits feedback solicitation, which is offering to sell feedback, trade feedback undeservedly, or buy feedback.
I have reviewed the information that you have provided and wanted to let you know that the members have been warned against any future occurrence of this type of activity."
Only warned? >:(
&
"Selling of Links to Buy -
We understand your concern regarding the sale of links on the site. We do investigate every listing that is reported to us. However, since we do not actively monitor our site for questionable or prohibited items, we rely on our members to report them to us."
I'm still a little concerned over "no active monitoring of the site", given the negative impact that misleading auctions can have on both individual users and ebay alike.

that is why we the users of eBay need to constantly report links because without us reporting links, eBay would become full of rubbish!0

But for example if eBay was to close my account, is there anything to stop be signing up again?
You can have unlimited ebay accounts if you own a domain or have an ISP which lets you create and delete email acounts as you wish, but which ebay doesn't treat as a PAYG ISP.
Ebay don't require credit card or bank details in either case. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -

Okay, reported about 40 "auctions for links" or "auctions for information" over the weekend, and sure enough they were removed fairly quickly.
But unfortunately the same sellers returned this morning with scant disregard for ebay's actions and all the links had reappeared, mainly from about 4 or 5 sellers all peddling Sim card links. >:(
Please please please, if you are new or a seasoned user of Ebay;
1. Always check the whole of the description and any small print before you bid for any product.
2. Check it is the actual product and not a link.
i.e the description doesn't have the disclaimer in small print at the bottom "This is a sale for information." or variations on this theme.
3. If you find a someone selling a link report it to ebay via the help links (see wirm's link on the footer of the posts).
4. Always check the feedback (although not 100% fool proof).
5. Always contact the seller.
6. And finally if in any doubt don't bid!
There is no point in buying a link for £20 which the seller has got for free, to then be redirected to a different site to pay more money to buy something worth 99p. It's not a great money saver.

I just hope what goes around comes around
You can spend your time alone re digesting past regrets,
Or you can come to terms and realize you're the only one who can forgive yourself.
Makes much more sense to live in the present tense.

Further to my "get your act together eBay" rant.....
Loads of M.S.Eers reported the James Bond £4.99 link auctions on 31st October - here we are 2 days later and those auctions are still live.
Last night I reported (OK, so they're not links, but equally bad IMO) some extremely hardcore !!!!!! auctions. Nothing against !!!!!! as such, but the pictures on these auctions left absolutely nothing to the imagination, and eBay is not an adults-only site.
Have eBay removed them yet? Have they hell!!!!!!!!
All very well them saying that they rely on users reporting violations - that the site isn't actively policed is bad enough, but to then ignore reports that are sent to them is just unacceptable.
I'm just exasperated - eBay is a fantastic selling and buying tool in principal, but it could easily be sooooo much better.0 -
I agree! If eBay would spend some money removing all the crap and policing the site then it would attract more people....but oh know....they just see £££0

Did recently forward some ideas to Ebay re: dealing with the "links for sale" problems. Perhaps something like a Junk / Prohibited Listing Filter backed up with combined user and ebay policing.
Was informed this, and other suggestions have been forwarded to the relevant department. I do hope they don't mean the waste paper bin, we'll see! :-/0
