Mrs Trelfa's Master Plan For Trifle Towers

  • So I have been looking at our finances at where I think we can cut back and have decided to go on a water meter. We have 2 years to decide whether we want to go back to unmetered and I am hoping that as there are only 2 of us it's should work out cheaper than the £30 a month we are currently paying. Just means I will have to keep my leisurely showers to a minimum.

  • Hi all, sorry I've been away for a while. Long story short is that my granny has been in and out of hospital, stayed with my mum and then hubby and I took her back home, meeting with a social worker that didn't go well. We think after her initial trauma she has developed dementia so all has been very stressful trying to sort her out.

Anyway enough of me moaning about my woes, there are more important things to talk about like the overpayments :) hubby overpayed £450 on Monday during his lunch break and we both danced round the lounge doing the Trelfa twist that evening.

Spent this morning getting paint tester pots and have random pieces of paper with colours painted on them taped to the walls of the lounge and bedroom.

Hope your all enjoying the weekend.

  • Hi all,

Paper work finally came so signature been updated. Really starting to see the progress we are making which is nice and what with the news that the base rate is likely to start going up that is more incentive to make sure that we are on a decent ltv when our fix ends.

So the next 6 weekends are very busy for us as we have family coming to visit and also decorating the house (obviously not at the same time lol) after finally deciding on colour scheme for our bedroom and lounge. Although we have the rest of the house to do, we figured to start with the rooms that we use the most so we feel a sense of achievement and use that for motivation for the rest of the house. A colleague from work was trying to give me her decorators contact details saying "why don't you just pay someone to do it so you don't have the stress and hassle of doing it yourself" clearly not a money saving expert :p

I actually considered paying someone to do my box room, but I am glad I haven't. My friends helped me out, and also as you say, you get a sense of achievement out of it. I ahve found it a learning curve, so glad I am starting with the smallest room!

Hi all, long time no post.

So a busy few weeks for trifle towers. Had my mum come up for a long weekend which was a nice little break for her. Also last weekend we decorated our room and despite a couple of heated disagreements with the hubby, we did well and we are both really proud. Just need to paint the cupboard doors and they new bedding and curtains and then we will be done.

I bet what you're all interested in is the last overpayments. Hubby did it last Wednesday and the balance has reduced to just under£96k just waiting for the paperwork and then I can change my signature.

Edit: should mention that the overpayments was £450.

Thanks luckyinlife, that's really kind to say. However I have realized I made a typo and added an extra £90k lol. Still we have knocked almost £10k off.

  • I wouldn't have minded if the extra £90k in my bank account. Speaking of which I have been debating whether to switch my bank account to Halifax and get the switch £100 bonus and then a fiver per month and put that all to the overpayments. All I have go into my current current account (barclays) is my wages then I transfer money into the other accounts we have for all the 'pots' of money. Do they let my employers know the new details for my account for my pay, or would I have to contact my hr department?
