Raw fed here - two dogs (40kg and 35kg) costing about £50 a month for both. I use The Dog Food Company and a local DAF stockist, plus odd bits and pieces from supermarkets, butchers, etc.
  • Five month old lab pup is fed Arden Grange large breed puppy kibble, in and around £30 for a 12kg bag which lasts over a month.

Shadow does however get bones from the butcher, if I find yellow stickered liver that is baked and cut up for training treats, same as cheap bits of chicken, pigs ears, any 'plain' leftovers and keep an eye on the likes of homebargains and b&m for chews and treats such as Applaws or paddy whack that works out far cheaper than pets@home etc.

I would love to be in a position to feed some of the higher grade foods that are on the which dog food site but Shadow is perfectly happy with Arden Grange, (let's face it, she's a lab and in the immortal words of my elderly aunt, 'she'd ate 'oul Nick himself') and her, ahem, leavings are consistantly firm and not too vile smelling.

Mine is on Burns chicken and rice at the moment, but I'm slowly introducing Dr John Silver to see how she reacts to that (yes, I've read the reviews, no need to tell me how awful an owner I am ;) ). She gets porridge in the morning (made with water and a bit of left over meat). Her food is down all the time so she can eat whenever she likes. She has 3 treats after walkies (she can count :D ) and she tends to have 2 feeds per day and a treat of some sort before bedtime.

I bought the 15kg bag of Burns for around £40 and it lasts for up to 6 months as Pipsqueak is a titchy thing :)

???? confused again - if you've read the reviews and know how much better quality foods there are - why are you putting her onto it?

You can get much better than Burns for £40 / 15kg - Skinners (Duck & Rice, Turkey & Rice or Salmon & Rice) are between £23 - £28 / 15kg and Wainwrights from PAH is a great food and just under £40 / 15kg
    Grocery Challenge £211/£455 (01/01-31/03)
    2016 Sell: £125/£250
    £1,000 Emergency Fund Challenge #78 £3.96 / £1,000
    Vet Fund: £410.93 / £1,000
Debt free & determined to stay that way!

It's all to do with the protein levels. I started on Burns as that was one of the lowest I could find. I'm trying the DrJS as it's also low in protein. I like to make up my own opinion on things instead of taking other people's word for it. Pipsqueak needs low protein, otherwise she goes hyper, gets scratchy skin and dodgy #2s.

My dog has Wainwrights "mature"as her main food but she also has tinned dog food, scrambled egg, pilchards, actually whatever I can get her to eat, she is 15 1/2 and getting very fussy.
Treat other's how you like to be treated.

Ohhhh funnily enough I was looking at their fish one earlier - thanks!

????? Natures Menu is a complete diet ?????

One of the big plus points of feeding raw for many people is that there's no grains etc in it - so why on earth would you then want to add these?

    (sorry but very confused :o)

    http://www.naturesmenu.co.uk/category-raw-meals.aspx

Sorry was not looking at the meals i was looking at the packs of just mince furthur down the page.
    In Progress!!!

Are you sure it's the protein she reacts badly to?

Yes. I've also been adviced by my vet, who is simply fabulous and owns the practice.
