What do you feed your dog?

Dry, Wet, a mixture of the two, Raw, Home prepared etc

Do you stick to a particular brand or are the main ingredients more important (duck & rice for example)?

Do you buy the food based on cost, perceived quality or just because it suits your dog?

Do you read the list of ingredients before you buy? Are there any that would put you off buying?

Is there a food you've tried that has caused problems & you now avoid at all costs?

In an ideal world, what would you feed your dog (forget cost & everything else)?

No ulterior motive for me asking, I'm just interested after reading through http://www.whichdogfood.co.uk/
Always try to be at least half the person your dog thinks you are!

  • That's a really good site and I use it a fair bit when I'm looking at foods (there's also another forum I use where a member has compiled a fab list of both wet / dry foods & graded them - her opinion of course, but she is really knowledgeable)

For Maisie, changes of foods are avoided as much as poss - she has Colitis and after much frustration / exclusion diets, we've figured out what she can / can't have

Her kibble stays the same as much as poss* but I do try to have a few high quality (Nature Diet, Wainwrights, Rocco Sensible, AG Partners etc) wets to mix in - really just in case one changes their recipe and she can't tolerate it anymore

    * Sadly looking like I'm going to have to change her kibble again :( - she was on Fish & Rice and was doing really well on it but couldn't keep her weight stable. I found a fab Fish & Potato and she's lost nearly 4kg on it :T BUT is itchy and sadly don't think we can say it's still seasonal allergies ... sadly there is a small amount of corn on it (would I try to avoid where poss but this food is great and TBH there's such a little bit I really don't know why they can't leave it out )

    Seriously?

Sorry but that's huge - any reason it's so big?

I know a lot of people who feed raw and, without exception, they all spend way less than I do on Maisie's food (circa £30 / month)

Im feeding half a tray of wainwrights puppy with burns puppy mini kibble mixed in, Cost is the main factor for feeding kibble as i'm unsure how good it really is for pets.

I decided on this after spending an age looking at the which dog food site.

I'm thinking about trying out the natures menu raw diet but still need to get my head round it as i would need to cook up rice and vegetables to make it complete.
    In Progress!!!

Our dog has a very sensitive tummy, like rising from the ashes doggie ours has colitis so we have to be careful what we feed him. At the moment he is doing quite well on taste of the wild, the rather fragrant farts haven't been wafting around lately either.

Mine is raw fed. He has mince for breakfast (either chicken, turkey, rabbit, beef or tripe) and usually chicken wings for dinner. This costs us about £10 per month (for a 10kg dog).

He also has a small portion of VRD salmon & potato biscuits at lunchtime, as I found he was a a bit skinny on raw alone.

????? Natures Menu is a complete diet ?????

One of the big plus points of feeding raw for many people is that there's no grains etc in it - so why on earth would you then want to add these?

    (sorry but very confused :o)
