Oh no! Just what you don't need, good luck with sorting it and hope it's not too expensive a repair.

Doing so well and on a roll, seems there's always something sent to test us.

Thanks guys. Appointment made for tomorrow but I am not hopeful. I never seem to leave the dentist with change from £500! :(:( That with the flashing (chimney sweep sending recommendation for roofer at least) makes two big unplanned expenditures. We will be OK - we had some money set aside to do work on the garden at Easter and take a couple of days away - so I will have to redirect some of this - but it is infuriating as I had worked so hard to build up that pot since OH desperately needs a break and the garden is currently largely unusable. Will just have to do the best we can to build the pot back up by Easter.

In other news - all finances checked and reconciled and thankfully no nasty surprises there!
  • Aargh Mizmir, These unexpected expenses are so difficult to deal with. Thank heavens you do have a savings pot for them, even if they were destined for something else. Got to give yourself a pat on the back for at least HAVING some savings .

Don't get disheartened, keep going. You have done so well in February to make up extra money. Is there anything you could sell on Ebay to re-fill your savings pot?.

Keep smiling. sun is shining (for 5 mins)

Thanks Steph - yes you are right. At least we won't have to increase the debt to deal with this. I will start sorting out some stuff - may be a boot sale (feels almost possible on this dry and nearly sunny day!) as a lot of it would be awkward to post. And I will get some more events organised!

Feels like I am wading through treacle at the moment - things are such an effort and it is 3 steps back for every two steps forward. Dentist shortly - I am resigned rather than optimistic. Then I must get on with my new product - it is key to my business plan but I am struggling to get it finished and up there. Initially it will be for a willing audience of previous clients who can try for free but I want it to eventually (over 2-3 years) bring in 50% of my income. So need to get it right. That said - nothing is set in stone so I think I just need to get some stuff up there and then develop it in conjunction with the initial users. I am really rubbish at getting things done without a real deadline. I know Karma - I need lists! Well I have some but it is not doing it. Anyone got any motivational tips? :p
  • Hi Miz,

Sorry to hear you are struggling abit, its hard when we get a set back, let alone two in a row :(.

You have got to look at the positives, you have been doing so well the last few months, it would be a shame if this small set back made you lose all motivation.

On the work front, I am the last person to advise on motivation and getting things done as I am so un-motivated it is silly. I think I am the type of person that really thrives on there being rules (like in a normal job) but being at home, I just flounder all day, guilt trip myself about what I haven't done, but then don't make any moves to actually fix it . Its very annoying when you annoy yourself :rotfl:. Just another of my many character flaws I think!.

BUT....Reading about your plans for your business, you HAVE motivated me to get sewing again. Up till mid January I had a little thriving sewing business, trouble is, if you don't keep putting new products out on FB then the work all dries up, and that's what has happened.
Need to get going again, as need the money more than ever.

Hope you get your mojo back, could you somehow set yourself a deadline?? Might help you get things done, although I know that I would just ignore it, knowing that all that would happen is I might tell myself off. haha.

Ok enough babbling. Good luck at the dentist. Hope it doesn't hurt. Paying for pain is never good xx

Thanks Steph - your last line made me laugh out loud - and I needed that! :T You are so right!

Well tooth was a previous root canal so it was filling that had broken off and has now been refllled - £94 - could have been a lot worse. There is only a wafer of original tooth left so it will need a crown and post when that gives but the dentist recommended waiting until that happened as its may be years (may also be days or months so had better start saving!). She also spotted that a chunk had broken off another root canal one at the back - hadn't noticed since it is dead and no pain - but it really needs crowning or it may shatter altogether. So I will need to get that done over the next few months but at least a window to raise the funds. I will start a "Dental" pot in YNAB!

Also called into the vet and picked up a claim for I had forgotten to get when I had shingles so hopefully should be able to claim a couple of hundred back for dog meds. Had to pay £12.60 for the written prescription but even so I am saving the best part of £50 a month doing it this way (as long as the insurers pay up!).

Just to phone the roofer now - have had a recommendation from our chimney sweep/fire fitter so will go with him as trust the guy's word.

I also smiled at your "give yourself a deadline" comments - I am just the same - I do that then ignore it too! The thing that has really got me doing something is a hard deadline - I have presold a couple of things - advertised before they were finished (knew what I was producing of course) and had customers with a deadline. This is a little different - maybe I need to send out an email and set the deadline! Will do that! Back to it - late lunch now my mouth is denumbing and then work! ;)

Just been into YNAB and realised I had already allocated £50 to a "medical" pot so that has gone towards the filling - and I have shifted unused funds from the dog budget for the rest so haven't (yet!) had to touch the "Easter" pot. :j:j

Hi Miz, I had a couple of days away from the web - sounds like those days have been really tough for you :(

Motivation and lists! Argh! Well, I'm with you on the need for motivation ... first tho, great to hear about your plans for the new work thats hopefully going to be 50% of the biz, and that you're almost ready to launch ... what about GTD, do your lists break down the jobs well enough? You know what I mean, the list says, "plant new raspberry bush" but first you have to dig the hole, check how much compost you have left, find some more drainage stones, sharpen the spade, get another bag of mulch in :o you can tell I'm speaking from experience, can't you :rotfl: its sould destroying to get halfway through that lot and *still* not be able to tick anything off!

Hope your teeth are okay
