Yep, I know the feeling, here I feel like I belong rather than being an oddity in the school playground, I don't work, don't swear at my kids, cook from scratch and sew, how much more unusual can I get?
Oooh forgot one, I grow my own veg tooOrganised people are just too lazy to look for things

You will be "reading books" next - said in a darkly disapproving tone!
I actually heard this sitting behind two middle aged ladies on a bus - "I don't like her boyfriend - he is strange - he reads books!" I had to get off the bus so did not hear any more of the conversation but laughed all the way up the road!"This site is addictive!"

Hi,
Thank you from me too. I am ashamed to admit it, but always used to poo hoo my Mum for making stuff from scratch and doing her own sewing. But now that is me and not only does it save me money but I love it all - I have taught myself to cook and my skin suffers less because I use fewer articificial lotions and potions and my sparkly hair is all due to last night's vinegar rinse!!! And it doesn't matter how busy I am at work, I always find time to come on MSE!"It's not easy being me...!" :wave:0 -
I think it's great that so many OS techniques can be passed along to whoever wants/needs them.
My mum is a terrible cook - she hates cooking with a passion - they live on ready meals......but both my grandmothers were fantastic cooks - I remember there was always a pot on the stove, something fresh from the oven and a garden full of fresh veg.....That's what I want for my children and grandchildren, I want them to appreciate the simple pleasures of life.
I look on OS as the grandmother I'd love to still have.
My grandmother always had time to listen, while she was chopping, peeling, whisking.....and she always had something wise to say on the matter.....that's what I think alot of us get from here, no matter how silly or pathetic it seems, someone will offer a word or 6 of support or be ready with a reply......It's a virtual granny hug!
Aril - I've seen lots of your posts - you've done really well to still be so cheerful at such a hard time, so many others would have climbed further and further into debt to get by. Well done you!!"Start every day off with a smile and get it over with" - W. C. Field.0 -
Ive been helped a lot by MSE, its been lovely to have a source of reference for so many different things (not just OS), and knowing there are so many like minded people to myself. Ive also enjoyed picking up advice, and also being able to help (i hope) in some small way, when i find things that i can help people with!!!!0

Thanks to everyone for being part of a like-minded community! When I first found this board it was so nice to realise I wasn't the only person who lived this way - who baked & cooked from scratch, read things like the tightwad gazette & looked on wartime recipe books as practical rather than historical oddities!!!!!!0

PLEASE can you post the recipe for the leek and apple quiche as I have both to use up. I grow my own and freeze a lot of it ,so i have frozen apple and frozen leeks and I am trying to use up all the stuff in my freezer so that I can clean it out ready for the next harvest. THANKSWombling £457.410
