They can apply for Attendance Allowance (AA) and help from social services.
Can indeed but not quite the same as Direct payments of £1000 a month PLUS DLA. The lady I mentioned does get help from social services.....15 mins a day to heat up a meal in the microwave or I guess whatever else can be done in the allotted 15 mins0 -

So nothing to help get them out of the house and just the radio or audio books. Still they are old so don't matter, especially if heaven forbid they live in social housing and have a spare room. I heard of a lady who had to give up having the treatment to preserve her bit of sight because she couldn't afford the taxi fare the 10 miles to the hospital and back and had no one who could take her. Certainly they have no PA at £10 an hour to take them visiting or run their bath. One lady I know has a hurried carer come in for 15 minutes to put a dinner in the microwave for her.
Some people are much better looked after than others.
the fact that i am relatively young, is the reason that my budget is as generous as it is. if i was 70 then im sure i would hust get the basics of my dinner warmed throughh. but i am a physicallt fit 50 year old ( almost) and so wouldnt normally be expected to be sat in listening to the archers!
the budget is worked out based on what the average person of the same age could be expected to do on a dauly basis, and this will sound harsh .... but i bet i get a lot more from the hours i get with my PA than a 70 tear old would!0 -
that is the issue i have with confuseddot.
they have recently been awarded PIP, but instead of them being supportive toward other disabled peoplke.... it seems a case of 'i'm OK, you sort yourself out'....
Seriously !!!!
I will support genuinely disabled people to the cows come home, I will also support disabled people who have the audacity to be in private housing. I will not say that everyone who has a disability needs an extra room and should have a god given right to it. I also believe that the disability benefits are generous and could be used to cover any differences short term in SOME cases until suitable accommodation is found. It is not an ideal situation but I think people need to be appreciative of what they have with SH especially the secured tenancy.Play nice  Just because I am paranoid doesn't mean they are not out to get me.:j0 -

There is no evidence to back up that this policy effects more "disabled" people than anyone else. But why let the facts get in the way with a good rant.
Hmm now you are truly deluded. Listen, just because you dont deem these people as disabled is utterly irrelevant. Something has gone very wrong that you believe you are personally the judge on such issues.
You went on about stuttering to allow yourself the repugnant stance of dismissing the whole lot. Please, dont ever lower yourself to my level, I could not stand being equated to someone who allows themselves to support such a policy.
You need to really ask yourself some deep questions about just how you have arrived at the point where you are happy for ANY % of disabled people to be targeted in such a way. I know of no capable and balanced people who could form such a view.
Look, sod this online rubbish, focus on the other issues that are screaming out.0 -

Not every disabled person gets DLA and £1000 a month Direct Payments. The funding has been cut; so many are only getting the minimum / no help from social services.Sealed pot challenge #232. Gold stars from Sue-UU - :staradmin :staradmin £75.29 banked

ah, this pleases me, I would be sick to the stomach if someone like you approved of my comments.
Yes yes, you go back to your unpleasant comments and block out those who point out the scary reality by your ramblings. You don't need to be qualified when something this broken is in front of you, I am not fooled for a second.0 -
princessdon wrote: »You know I've seen hundreds of bedroom tax articles and petitions claiming how unfair it is on disabled,
Never seen one saying ALL disabled who can prove additional room is needed for their disability should get their full rent paid. Ie private renters and disabled who work.
I'd sign and support that with enthusiasm but I won't support any policy that is given "because their a council tenant". That's wrong on so many levels.
The majority of disabled people live in social housing, not the private sector. A policy which affects the spare room of those in social housing will disproportionately affect the disabled, as this policy does with a huge majority of affected claimants being registered disabled.0 -

my friends mum was assessed for direct payments and was awarded 9 jours ( i get 25)
her needs are more significant than mine, but the direct payments are about assissting 'normal living'
for many elderly people that means mainly staying at home as they are more frail.
by the way ... i do pay towards the cost of my direct payments ... it isnt totaslly free0 -
it is interesting, I have yet to find anyone in the real world who is happy for the disabled to be targeted. I have found zero whose first thought is to question the % before thinking about those who suffer.
Yet now we have found about 3 or 4 on here. With a PR guy as leader and a tech guy as chairman, it does make you wonder if this is coming from an organised perspective.
I hope so, otherwise it means there are just some very broken folk about.0
