That at least is an honourable position. Not advertising something as free, but....
If you go to a supermarket they don't advertise bogof offers as free bottle of milk, but then say however we'll charge you for it if you don't buy another.
Anyway it seems I'm in a minority of 1, well 3 at most :-) so I won't waste everyone's time further

Do you mean that everyone should be "especially nice" by agreeing with you even though they think your wrong?
Not at all. I just don't think that comments about lack of signatures proves whether something is right or wrong. Just sounds like a playground jibe to me and doesn't add to the debate.

I would respectfully disagree. A lack of signatures does suggest that the petition is not well founded. If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales0 -

Many e petitions take time to get started. There are currently 5,650 petitions. Appx 900 have only one vote, appx 800 have 2 votes & another 460 odd have 3 votes, so by your definition somewhere under half of the petitions on the government site have no worth to them. I'd say that (regardless of the merits of my own petition) is unlikely.0 -
I don't know about "worth", but if they don't receive support from (many) others they are worthless in that they achieve nothing.Mso by your definition somewhere under half of the petitions on the government site have no worth to them.
Since only concerns people feel strongly about will ever garner any significant support, I'd accept that your petition has already failed.0 -
BT now charge £1.75 a month for the 1571 service, or you can opt out. Your petition is now redundant.0

Thanks. You may well be right, I may be wasting my time, but I'll give it until the end of the month, and if it doesn't improve substantially I'll withdraw it.

I just dont think this is one issue to consume too much negative energy on0

I certainly dont think this should be disregarded...Ive been annoyed enough this morning after receiving an email to say my bill is ready, and finding I have been charged £5.50ish for something Ive never used, never asked for, and wasnt given an option as to whether I wanted it or not.
I am on BT Basic, and to find my Feb bill was almost £6 more than my Nov bill was a bit of a shock. As far as I can remember I havent received any correspondence to tell me I was going to be charged for a service that I didnt even know I had anyway.. If I had been notified, I certainly would have cancelled immediately.
I am quite able to deal with things like this when they happen, and phoned BT, got a call back and registered my annoyance at this(in a calm manner). The person I spoke to cancelled my "advance" 1571 payment, and refunded the £2ish paid from 4th of January.
What about those people who aren't confident on the phone or the internet, or those that dont really understand why their bill has gone up.
I think the poster of this thread is entirely correct in his approach, and that BT are in fact conning everyone by making people take this service, then having to get in touch to cancel and get a refund.
Surely a customer caring company would asked the customer first whether they wanted to pay £3.75 a quarter for a service they possibly didnt use or want.
I'm also very surprised at the negative response from the members on this thread. I really thought that when I decided to come here to air my views, there would have been a campaign from Martin to end this injustice, rather than just a little supported campaign from a new member...
Unless theres something my search hasnt found!Couponing....."every little hurts"
Half of the people can be part right all of the time, Some of the people can be all right part of the time.
But all the people can't be all right all the time. .........I think Abraham Lincoln said that.
