Apparently as a new user I'm not allowed to post links.
Perhaps someone more senior can post the link for me? Broken down below
Its at
epetions

/petitions/58815
I've also reported this to the ombudsman as I think it's sharp practise at best.
From my petition:
BT 1571 a scandal like ppi?
Responsible department: Department for Culture, Media and Sport
It is my belief that BT have been operating a scheme that is every bit as pernicious as the ppi mis-selling scandal. They sign you up for 1571 without informing you (other than a short note included in with an e mail notification of start date for service) this is a free service with a catch where they charge you if you do not make enough chargeable calls.
They rely on people like myself not bothering to check if the bill is within a pound or so of what we expect. I recently discovered I have been charged for this & complained. They refunded the last charge, but have refused to refund previous charges.
I presume that a great many people are affected by this. I neither requested or wanted the sevice (I have an answerphone so it's useless to me). Please investigate this as I believe it is as bad as adding ppi without explanation.

A service you can choose to use or not. Hardly even remotely similar to the PPI mis-selling debacle.0

Well I beg to disagree. It's only a choice if you know you have it. How is it right that you can be signed up for a service that involves charges (unless you make a minimum amount of calls) when you have not requested it?
I'm not talking about the cost of calling the sevice which I haven't. I'm talking about a monthly charge of £1.02 (now £1.75 I understand) for a service I didn't ask for & didn't need.
They rely on people not reading too closely an e mail sent detailing the start of your service, and in that respect it's like ppi where many people were signed up for ppi wihtout even being asked. At best it's disctinctly sharp practise IMO.0 -
Three signatures - doing well!0

How about reading the main text of the contract? Not the small print but the services provided.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). So much for being especially nice to newbies eh?
More fool me for thinking people on here might actually give a damn about being ripped off by big business.
Free is free. Not free unless you spend some money with us in which case it's chargeable. The word should mean something shouldn't it?0 -

Just because people dont agree with you does not mean they are not being nice to newbies.More fool me for thinking people on here might actually give a damn about being ripped off by big business.
you have failed to persuade us that you have a point. And with just 3 sign ups, it appears you are not doing very well with anyone else despite spamming your petition an a busy board like this.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). I thought that BT are starting to charge everyone for using 1571. A bit late to be petitioning, methinks.

I was referring less to your contribution than the apparent delight of some comments about lack of signatures, but fair enough if people aren't as exercised by this as I am, and if I have spammed this board I apologise to everyone for that as that was not my intention.
This is the only site I have posted this on & I chose this particular forum carefully as I thought it was the most suitable to the subject.0
