Hi,
This is probably going to sound like I am throwing my dummy out of the pram but I'm sure I'm not.
I've had a piece of work back today and I've been marked down quite a lot on something that I don't think I should of been as it wasn't clear in the assignment brief, I've been through the feedback, the assignment brief, the study handbook and the module handbook today to make sure it's not something I've missed.
I don't want to make a prat of myself asking for it to be relooked at if I can't. I'm not even sure when the university reopens with lecturers!

Check your university's regulations. But our university states that an academic decision stands and cannot be changed.
However speak to the tutor about your mark they may be able to explain it clear.
If your not sure about the regulations your college office or student union rep will be able to help.0 -
Has it been double marked?Do Something Amazing- Give Blood0

not a lecturer but have done a degree through the Open Uni. Usually the lecturer makes it clear WHY you got a low mark. if they haven't done so then you need to ask them why the mark was lower than you expected. You may have misunderstood the assignment, or made some glaring errors.
or the lecturer may have made a mistake and will 're-mark' it. I did have that happen once.0 -
I had a lecturer who was a very hard marker and basically wasn't worth questioning she would never change.
However if this is an unusual occurrence I'd wait til you see them & ask to have a short meeting with them.
Lecturers would reply to email to us in holidays sometimes.0 -

It's worth politely asking your lecturer to explain first, then a push for it to be remarked if you still feel it's unfair?
I had an exam remarked because of incorrect information given to me, had a whole 10% added on to my mark.0 -
The actual process of how to challenge a mark often varies between Uni's (sometimes even between departments within Uni's), so check with your tutor if it is appropriate, and if so, how to go about it.0
-
Is it one that counts toward your degree classification? You can ask for feedback, and you might be able to arrange a meeting with the marker to discuss it.
You probably won't be able to appeal though, at most universities academic judgement is final, only extenuating circumstances are grounds for appeal.0 -
How did the rest of your tutor group do? I ask this because my DD is in a similar situation - she passed but not what she expected - the rest of the group failed. Is not something that should be looked at?I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over and through me. When it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
When the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.0 -
I would have thought it odd if a lecturer didn't respond to an email during the vacation period unless they are actually on holiday themselves. There is no harm in asking for more detailed feedback.
Are you the only student who found the assignment brief unclear?0
