Go for PS3 or PS4

Options
Hi everyone,

I am new here and I don't know if it's okay to start a thread like this but I would like a piece of advise from those gaming freaks... I am a bit torned on weather to buy a PS3 or PS4...

There are a lot of games that I would like to play in PS3 but from what I heard, PS3 games won't work anymore with PS4.

PS4 is quite pricey and there are only a few games to choose from (as of the moment) and there's this 1% chance of getting a dead unit. While on PS3, there are numerous games to choose from and some of them, I fancy on playing - but then again, PS3 games won't work on PS4...

Big question is, should I wait for more PS4 games to be released (maybe this will take a year or so of waiting) and hopefully to wait for the newly revised units to be released before buying or should I go to the lesser value - PS3 and enjoy the hell out of playing my fave games?

Any advise will be highly appreciated.

Thanks! xoxo

If you want to play a couple of high definition games and pay a lot for it; PS4.

If you want to play loads of quality games, don't have to spend a lot on games, can play The Last Of Us, and want more flexibility whilst you are unsure; PS3.

In summary, you've answered your own question. Now look out for some good PS3 deals!
  • Hmm I think this is a tough one because Playstation Now is going to mean you can play PS3 games on a PS4 (or any streaming device!) BUT the PS3 is waaay cheaper and you can get great games for very cheap now!

  • Remember the PS3 is more than a console too. Depends on if you game on your main tv or on a separate tv - you could use the PS3 as a bluray player/Netflix machine on the main telly when you upgrade to a ps4 in the future at some point.

If you want to start gaming now, might be worth picking up a second hand PS3 unit from somewhere like GAME (1 year guarantee I believe) and then get the PS4 in a year or so when it should have more games and hopefully be a little cheaper.

Even if you buy a new PS3 though (prices are hopping around and a fair few good deals out there), I don't think you'll regret it. There are loads of great games on it that definitely have a lot of life left in them.

In all honesty it really depends on what YOU want.

At the moment there isn't a huge choice of games on the PS4 and it won't really be until the end of the year that this will change. That said, it is a fantastic piece of kit.

Also, you can't play PS3 games on it currently but later this year Sony are launching their PS Now service which will allow you to play old PS1, PS2 and PS3 games.

My advice would be that if you are buying a console for now then PS3 is the way to go(especially considering how cheap the console and games are) and upgrade to a PS4 at a later date.

If you don't want the expense of upgrading at a later date and are happy to accept there won't be a great choice of games for another 9 months or so then a PS4 is the way to go.

If you buy a ps4 from a shop and its 'broken' you take it back for a refund\replacement... That's not really a risk, its just basic consumer rights....

really depends on how much gaming you want to do and how price sensitive you are, do you have any other friends that you would be gaming with.

Yes ps3 obviously has the larger games library - particularly for preowned games that would be much cheaper, although not current versions or 'cutting edge' in terms of graphics ..

So as ever its personal taste that should decide on this..

My "fat" PS3 (not the backwards compatible one though, but the 80GB one) has died and Sony want £110 for a repaired replacement.

Cheapest I've seen second hand consoles for is £130, cheapest brand new PS3 I've seen is £190.

As my girlfriend is borrowing my venerable Oppo 93 the PS3 would have been a good Blu Ray and media player device.

I thought that the PS4 would make PS3 prices really hit rock bottom, but doesn't seem to be the case as yet.

320gb slims were £90 on game this morning (second hand, 12 month warranty).

I bought mine for £100 from game about a year ago (refurb, 12 month warranty).
    Thinking critically since 1996....
