I would go with a PS3. I've currently got an Xbox 360 and will not be getting any of the next-gen consoles such as the ps4 or xbox one. I don't see the point when there is still support for the 'older' consoles and they're still making games for them, once they stop then i'll buy the new one.0

I've just purchased a second hand ps3, it's the older fat console with 60GB storage (expandable) and came with 1 controller but no games for £50. They've hardly used it so it's in fair nick and is a bargain for us. As someone else has pointed out, it's so much more than just a games console to us, our dvd player was on it's way out so now we have a shiny blu-ray player instead. We do a lot of catch up/on demand tv and always hooked the laptops to the tv, now we can do it through the ps3 instead. I also waited until the ps4 came out on purpose in the hope that there would be more ps3's available, and for less, because people have upgraded.
As someone else has pointed out, if you manage to get a bargain buy on a second hand ps3, as we did, you'll probably get loads of game play (and other uses) out of it and can look at upgrading to a ps4 at a later stage, if you even still want to, when the price might have dropped a little.£12k in 2019 #084 £3000/£3000

The PS3 is a great media device.
The only, only criticism that I have is the filesystem format support on external drives (I don't think it supports filesystems that have 4GB+ file sizes) but if royalties to Microsoft are the reasoning behind it then that I can understand.
That and the 4OD app doesn't work too well with the optional Sony remote...
Those little gripes aside (the first is solved by streaming rather than directly connecting a USB drive for example) it's a fantastic all in one device, and one that I miss having.0 -

The common argument for the lack of 4gb+ support is that NTFS (patented by Microsoft) is licensable. However NTFS is wholly unsuitable for such use (due to file permissions etc) which is why the 360 doesn't even support it.
The only other alternative would have been to create a proprietary file system format, or use another open format. Both of which are ruled out as it would render removable drives effectively useless in most other devices.
So the only option is the open format of FAT32, which is supported in Windows/OSX/Linux, but comes with the 4gb file size limit.0 -

Been there, sold the xbox and bought and returned the Xbox one to the shops,
Happily playing PS3 for now at least until the first PS4 console price drops take effect and there are a few more games to chose from.0 -
PS3 is good, I have a PS3 & Xbox360 but fear that the Games industry will now target PS4 and Xbox1, similar to the rapid decline in PS2 games once the PS3 came along.:A:dance:1+1+1=1:dance::A

Bit rude, Twiggy ( the poster you quoted ) got a good deal there, they got a console for £50, even if they only use it for blu rays and catch up its still a decent deal and if at any point they want to play a ps3 game then they have the option.
Looks like the poster wont be here for long going by his previous postings.0 -
PS3 all the way.My backward compatible one has just died, but, I do have another PS3 thank goodness, and I was able to buy BF4 and COD Ghost for the PS3, both great games. Who knows what games for the PS4 will be available for the PS3 in the future?
I have a stack of all the FPS shooters for PS2/ PS3 and still replay them they give me great pleasure, I would rather buy another PS3 used than part with my games in exchange for pennies at Game!
I may buy the PS4, cost of the games is extortionate as most of them can be finished in a week and do not have the replay factor of the older games. You live..You learn.:)0
