That is the posters business but it doesn't alter the fact that so long as you are contactable at the address on your licence then it doesn't have to be your current address. My green paper licence has my parents address on it and I also moved out 25 years ago.0 -

Yes my mother and father are alive and well and live at that address.

Which in turn will mean they can reduce the premiums for drivers who have not had any convictions who currently subsidise the premiums of the non disclosing drivers and also the premiums for some of the people with minor convictions may also reduce for the same reason
Yes, they can - my point was that if you believe they will use this to reduce anyone's premium, you're living on a different planet. Sure, they'll charge more for those who previously failed to disclose, but an insurance company reducing it's premium? :rotfl:0 -
I am sure I gave my driving licence number and a photocopy of my licence when I was first covered by my insurers years ago.The truth may be out there, but the lies are inside your head. Terry Pratchett

Apart from the very genuine concern about another non-official, non-governmental organisation holding unnecessary information on people, I think the operative word here is "could" - not "would" cut insurance costs. I think the insurance companies will simply raise the premiums of people with 'history', not cut the cost to those who do not have 'history'.0

If anyone seriously expects insurance costs to drop - just because the government has decided to get driving records on-line - They will discover the reverse will be true
Virtually ALL Government IT projects to date have run years behind schedule and have cost many times their original planned costs.
This will not be any different.....0 -
Standard press release from any government department, we have made a change that might upset you, but our in-house planners have agreed the economic impact will be that you will actually save £15. !!!!!!!!, just wait for the additional insurers administration cost of £25 each year to check your details.0

You car insurance therefore is invalid as you have failed to disclose a material piece of information which has a direct bearing on how much you pay for your cover. If you have an accident, the insurance company (when finding out about those points) is likely to simply cancel your insurance and leave you twisting in the wind.
No, the insurance will pay out for any third party claim as required. They can't get out of it by simply cancelling the policy. If the policy holder had the means the could then try and recover their losses from them.0 -
It would be much better if our insurance companies were able to access our driving record to check for points, I wouldn't be surprised if the number of people not bothering to declare them was quite high.
While I very much doubt this would have any impact on my insurance, it would be nice to know that all point carriers would have slightly higher insurance, not just those with points who are honest and declare them to their insurance companies.0 -

You would be surprised, if you have a clean licence you are in effect subsidising the premiums of the drivers who deliberately or inadvertently non disclose their convictions.
The new system is expected to reduce the premiums of people with clean licences by circa £15 per year.
People may assume Insurers won't pass the savings on but we have one of the most competitive Insurance markets in the world. It's a very cut throat business, most Insurers generally tend to target the safer drivers. This new system should enable them to price the premiums of the safer (and the drivers with convictions) more accurately and pass on the savings to attract your business0
