Q'co definitely over SSM, no longer any option for 'Local' newspapers.Could any of you give me some advice please?
Have just found out that my 14 yr old son was stupid enough to take his wallet to school yesterday (he needed £2, was running late, so just picked up his wallet). Wallet contained £200 - all of his Xmas and birthday money. He was also idiotic enough to leave it in school changing rooms while he played in a basketball match after school. Needless to say - wallet stolen
He has confessed to DH while they are out, he will be back in approx 30 mins and I am totally furious with him - all kinds of sanctions are running through my mind - grounded for X amount of time/ no more basketball for the rest of school year/has to do chores to the value of the money lost etc etc.
Do you agree that he should be punished for leaving his wallet unattended?
All sensible suggestions considered ....
Thanks for any advice, I am really struggling to rationalise this one. Obviously the thief is to blame, but son does know that things get stolen from school changing rooms. Will ring school tomorrow, but he has told teachers today and I don't think anything can be done xx
As a mum I would be furious as his stupid decisions, to take this to school which is either based on being stupid or trying to show off.
But I bet he is feeling even worse then you do and to top it he has to tell you. But could not face this, he was brave telling your hubby.
I think the way you respond depends on how you parent him.
I have always tried to ensure my kids tell me everything...... most of the things they tell me makes me feel sick or have to stop myself laughing, but I do think having an open discussion is the biggest protective factor I can give them.
He was brave and has to do without his £200.
Whether an additional punishment is necessary is up to you, but it may result in him not being open and honest in the future xx100 -

I would ask the school why the changing rooms aren't locked/supervised too...
some proper scumbags about unfortunately....
I will talk to the school, maybe they have CCTV outside the changing rooms, but if anyone told me they had brought £200 to school I would tell them they were asking for trouble . It was a total one-off that he even took his wallet to school, the school operates a cashless system, he just needed £2 to pick up something on the way home. A hard lesson, I think he is devastated to be honest0 -

There's no harm in being pipped at the post by a short fat English bloke.
Maybe we should meet up some day and have a moob competition?:rotfl::rotfl:0 -
buyitall, He has probably been bricking it telling you, when he gets back just give him a hug :A
least he has been honest and told you the truth rather than a huge pack of lies and losing the money will show him to be more careful in future. As for the fact that he has told a teacher and now you shows you have brought him up to face thingsand by going off on one would probably make him not say anything or lie in the future
growing up with my mother if that sort of money would have gone missing I would have had at least one slap but it would then turn out to be her that took it :rotfl:0 -

i didn't blog/post/tweet about my bakery and though that was the reason, I'd heard naffall!:p
Buyitall, did your son tell anyone about the cash he was carrying?
I made the mistake of telling a room mate on a school trip where I had hid my holiday money and guess what...it disappeared!"He that lieth down with dogs shall rise up with fleas" Benjamin Franklin
