I hope no one minds my going on at length about stuff - it's actually really helpful to put it down and reading everyone else's thoughts is very motivating. Not trying to suggest anyone else should tackle it the way I do - it's just about what I find useful.
No one minds, and if it helps you, you should post as often and as much about anything you want or need to say. This thread is a safe place where people can say whatever they want about themselves and give support to anyone who is going through a tricky time. None of us will ever know if what gets said here helps anyone who may read and run without contributing, and there are a lot of lurkers on the thread.
Personally, without this thread and the contributions that people have made to this and the older ones, I seriously question whether I could have stopped and stayed stopped. It all helps.I am reading everyone's posts but not in the right place to offer anything constructive, so keeping shtum. 24/31 please Shaggy. I'm going to do this whole month even if it kills me.
I bet you can't wait for January to be over, Dizzy, but good on you for staying strong. (((hugs)))I think it's wonderful that people come into this group and are able to say what they need to say. This is serious stuff. We're not talking about whether to watch corrie or eastenders, we're talking about stuff that changes lives. And in some cases potentially saves them. Out of control drinking is not good. That's why we're here and why we it's important that nobody feels they need to say sorry for long rants, or worry that people don't want to listen or understand.
So hearing your stories like visits to AA, like bad relationships, sad illnesses is all essential to our mutual healing. People's fears and worries can be seen more clearly by the author of them and it brings relief both to themselves and to those who tread the same path.
I for one embrace all the different threads of your lives and feel a great respect for anyone trying to help themselves. Inevitably there will be slip ups, trip ups and some tremendous tumbles along the way, but it's the getting up and trying again that makes us stronger.
Thank you everyone for sharing.
Kind regards
Poppety:)
Just wanted to say - I echo every single words of that, Poppety. Well said.
It's true, Stupotstu and Alex, the relationship isn't the same after a really bad drink-fuelled incident. However, if we're with the right person and work at dealing with what's gone wrong in the past, it can recover and be something else.
In my case, it's better. I'm finding hidden depths of strength in our revamped relationship and it's much, much better than in my drinking days.
It's completely worth it. As for never drinking again, Stupotstu, it didn't take me long to realise that what had been an impossible idea at the beginning was actually an ideal idea. I truly, truly don't mind in the slightest that I won't have another drink, and don't want to go back to being or living like that. (I know, I know, never say never and all that, but it's as close as I can get to that.)
The cravings go with time and if we accept that there are things in life we have to work at, we're up there with Olympic athletes, people who have PhDs and anyone and everyone else who's ever been good at anything.Better is good enough.0 -
Morning :hello:
1 more AFD for yesterday.
ShaggyxWhat do we do when we fall? We get up, dust ourselves off and start walking in the right direction again. Perhaps when we fall, it is easy to forget there are people along the way who help us stand and walk with us as we get back on track.0 -

Drat. Wrote a longish post and lost it.
24/31 AFDs today.
Can I set a target of 29 AFDs for February - 2016 is a Leap Year. As Easter comes early this year, there's a ready-made reason to give to family and friends for abstention, if you want/need one. Ash Wednesday is 10th February, Easter Sunday is 27th March. What would you get if all you got was what you were thankful for?0
