Thanks to everyone who commented on/ came up with advice for me after me previous post re:alcohol units.
I had scheduled last night as a drinking night but I went somewhat over the top. I am new to this controlling drinking lark and the control was somewhat lacking. In the end I drank 3 bottles of Belgian beer and half a bottle of prosecco. I woke up in the night feeling guilty and ashamed as I had a few words with OH which I never normally do.
I really need to get some perspective on this.
I have only drunk 2 nights this week, one of which was very controlled. I am pleased about that but not about yesterday.
I need a bit more practice. I am also trying to lose a few Christmas pounds around the waist but seem to be craving sugary snacks in the absence of alcohol. I then feel guilty for eating. In fact it would seem I feel guilty about most things, most of the time. I know it's a self esteem issue but it's hard to change.

I am declaring early today as I have no intention of drinking tonight. I have been for a walk and pub lunch with my kids today ( cup of tea for me in the pub) which was lovely and I'm now sitting in bed warming up. Lovely.

So that's 5/11 for me please Shaggydoo.

And thank you to everyone for your support.
    Kind regards
    Poppety:)

    10 AF please Shaggy

Thanks for all the advice re binge drinking at the weekend, honey bear I didn't think you were lecturing me at all, just sharing your thoughts, thank you. Shaggy I did chuckle reading your last bit 'sip don't gulp' that is so me. Maman I completely understand the 6pm/wine o clock bells, only here in my part of Scotland its 5pm, must be the time difference :rotfl:
Last night I did start my drinking later on, 7 pm, and I made 1 large glass of wine last 1 hour, so by the time I went to bed I drank 1 bottle which is a reduction from before which would always be 1 and a bit bottle of wine. Baby steps and all that

Stupotstu I wish you lots of luck stepping into your first meeting, that takes courage. Dizzyimp sorry to hear you are feeling so sad, sending you hugs. Alexlk sorry you and your family are having such a hard time at the moment, take care.

:TWell done to everyone on here

hi Poppety, that's exactly the kind of thing I tend to do though - I will take breaks of a month or so from drinking and when I go back to it at first I am fine, and control it, but less so the next time and then it builds up over time to too much - and I do find as well on any given evening that if I have anything beyond one or two drinks then I will probably lose judgement and drink a lot more. Not always, but mostly. I'll think "I'll just have two" then on the second one I will think "I'll just top that up a bit," then I top it up a bit more, and so it goes. It's a tricky beast to control because as we all know once you have a bit of alcohol in you then the fuzzy glow feels good and you forget the consequences.

I suppose I'm hoping that if I cut down to about half the days in the month and make the others AFDs, that will help to do the trick, but we'll see.

What I'm trying to say is don't feel too bad that you went over the top with it because that's the nature of alcohol, but what I suppose we're all aiming to do on here is find a method of not doing that - whatever that method turns out to be. :) Hang in there, we're all in it together! It's all progress (hopefully) :)
  • Dizzy I hope you got through ok.

Alex one AF day at a time! The first and second are the hardest I think.

    Shaggy 23/31 please. Xxx

Thank you so much for writing this. I think I'm probably a bit too much of an all or nothing girl. Maybe all of us on here are to some extent, or we wouldn't be here I suppose. I wanted to start about 7pm too last night but started about 5.45. I need to find a filler for those dodgy habitual times. I think I might get a puzzle out or my paints. Do something busy so I'm not twiddling my thumbs waiting for the sun to be over the yard arm, so to speak.

So many encouraging words on here I knew I'd come to the right place.

    Thanks to everyone. :)

22/31 AFDs for me. Temptation was strong as I prepared to serve dinner, but instead we had fizzy water.
What would you get if all you got was what you were thankful for?

Absolutely agree re. the first and second being the hardest. :)

Today has been AF. Just made myself a cup of tea and no intention to have a drink before bed. So, another day. :)

I don't know what my total is because I can't remember how many days AF before I came to stay with my parents. Since I've been here, I'm on +3, though. :)
    2018 totals:
    Savings £11,200
    Mortgage Overpayments £5,500
  • Well done Alex. Hope you start feeling the benefit of that soon.
