    Hi

4/31 please Shaggy. Off to work soon so can declare early

To be honest it has not been a problem so far as I have been on afternoons and nights and never normally have a beer. It will be more of a problem the next 4 days as I am off and this is when the beer usually flows :o

    Feeling positive though :)

4/31 for me please Shaggy. :)

I had a tiring day at work and fell back on my old standby for when I get home and am stressed and tired and just want a drink, which is ginger beer with angostura bitters - in fact technically (I think) the angostura bitters have alcohol in them, but only in tiny amounts and you're only meant to use a dash of them anyway. They add a sort of bitter tang to the ginger beer that make it feel a bit more substantial than a soft drink (ie more like a "real drink"). That always does the trick and after that I forget about it and get on with the evening. Ready for bed now.

Interesting that article on life expectancy. We know that lots of exercise and a sensible diet which is high in veg and fruit contributes to longevity. Looking at people now, how many can really say that they have at least 5 F&V a day every day and eat less than 6 teaspoons of sugar daily and do at least 30 minutes of exercise that makes you short of breath three times a week? These are the minimum recommendations and I would bet that the majority of the UK population miss them.

If we just look at the early lifestyle of the people who are now in their 80s and 90s we can see how healthily they ate (even in times of scarcity) and how active they were. I reckon that, even with medical advances, increases in Longevity are going to slow and even stop.

gien, I agree - one of my goals this year is to keep track of the fat and sugar I eat every day - I need to bring my cholesterol down. The recommended limits for added sugar for women is 25g a day (I know these limits are somewhat arbitrary but it's a place to start). I knew I was eating more sugar than I should but was horrified to see on day one that I had blown nearly all the day's limit with one mince pie at 19g of sugar!!:eek: Blimey, how much have I been tucking away all these years?.... and this is before you includeany alcohol!! my diet's sort of reasonable mostly but obviously way too high in fat and sugar, no wonder my cholesterol is too high :(

I woke at 7.30 this morning half an hour before the alarm and that is one of the things I love about going off the booze, that straight away you get this wonderful gift of more time in the day :)
