Saw the New Year in AF as I was on driving duty. We left early and I'm glad as some of DH's family were behaving appallingly, as they were all trollied. It's strange how other people's actions aren't nearly as acceptable when you're sober, isn't it?
I'm definitely on for a dry January and today was day one.
1/31 please Shaggy x0 -
Declaring AFD 1 over!
Now Sitting in bed with a nice cup of tea after seeing 'Bridge of Spies' at the cinema. Mark Rylance really is superb.
I'm moving in July probably Satchmo, but I've started now because the house will look a lot nicer when decluttered and tidy and it might help with getting it sold.
Hello Maman, I must say that I think that sparkling wines give you less of a hangover but that's just me perhaps. I have a feeling that they are not so high in alcohol?Trying to keep in budget.

hi all, happily I can declare 1/31 too
I was at work today, which helped. I ate more than usual for dinner to compensate for not having a drink but am sure that will wear off as Jan goes on.
One of my colleagues had been going to invite me for a drink at lunchtime but because of one reason and another he didn't! Just as well, I might have been tempted.
I'm thinking I might aim for 15 AFDs each month from now on - that will add up over the course of the year to the full six months off (or 176 days) that I was hoping to do. I might experiment a bit - maybe 10 days one month and 20 the next? . I was initially thinking I'd do one month on, one month off, to get the six months, but I want to try different things, to work out something I can stick with over the longer term. Or maybe having the whole month off is best! I want to see what works.
Did everyone see they announced new guidelines for healthy drinking today (which are lower than they used to be)? ... http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-35209597 ... Just thought it might interest people!
Thanks for this thread, am very happy I joined.0 -
Well I got stuck on 19/25 for Dec and didn't progress so must do better for Jan. Going for 31/31 gulp!! I'm off the mark today with 1/31 yippee!
Happy new year to everyone and particularly to our magnificent scorer, shaggy xxx0 -
Not sure the last time I joined this thread think is was poss 2011 but maybe before. My drinking is worse than then and I need to focus on more AFD rather than a glass of wine before bed.
I am aiming for 18 AFD so can I please join and hoping to achieve target if not better it.0 -
Thanks for the link Cathybird - interesting reading. I'm surprised to learn that it's 20 years since the guidelines were last reviewed.
This was very helpful, for me, as I never knew how units were calculated. Makes my strong red wine slightly less appealing.
To work out how many units there are in any drink, multiply the total volume of a drink (in ml) by its ABV (which is measured as a percentage) and divide the result by 1,000
I now have no excuse to kid myself that an ALD can be counted as "I've just had one glass", as my glasses are at least 250ml and the wine 13.5% (or higher), so that's 3.375 units...gosh...0 -
Morning :hello:
2 more ALDs for NY Eve and NY day.
ShaggyxWhat do we do when we fall? We get up, dust ourselves off and start walking in the right direction again. Perhaps when we fall, it is easy to forget there are people along the way who help us stand and walk with us as we get back on track.0 -
