Does anyone else notice that they develop more of a sweet tooth when not drinking?
YES! Funny, I was thinking about that this morning. Since I haven't been drinking, my tastes have really changed and I am definitely craving sugar more! Well done for driving to the barbie! :TOH away today and bottle in fridge so a fail today. I think I drink to rebel, or tell people (who're not listening, or not here) that they need to be. Counselling for work stress next week and will see what she thinks. Saw her a few years ago and it really helped. Was doing so well in July, so cross with myself
Thanks shaggy. Still 2:A
Ah Dansmam, don't be too hard on yourself! Hopefully the counselling will help.
13/31 now please Shaggy.0 -

I think there probably is a factual explanation but, for me, it's about a treat/reward. I don't have a sweet tooth but the idea of a 70% cocoa piece of chocolate with a cup of tea when settling down for an AF evening makes me feel I'm treating myself. So it's not a miserable evening even though I'm AF if that makes sense.I get defensive saying "I've really cut down" but in all honesty, I know I display signs of alcoholism when I binge, it doesn't matter whether it's "less than other people" it's still a binge when I drink 500ml of a bottle of wine on Saturday night, then start thinking about opening another bottle.
I'm not being sarcastic but are there 500ml bottles of wine? I think I've only come across these in pudding wines.0 -
"are there 500ml bottles of wine?"
I meant that I drink 500ml of a 750ml bottle :-)
Talking about craving sweets, it's hardly surprising when there's the equivalent of 4 teaspoons of sugar in "dry" white wine! I'm currently chewing my way through a bag of fruit pastilles.
11/20 AFDs for me today. What would you get if all you got was what you were thankful for?0 -

Totally. A year on I still find once I start eating something sugary, I don't want to stop. Bit like the red wine used to be. So, I kind of don't let myself any more. It'll pass eventually, I hope, but either way it's better to eat the chocolate or Twinks or whatever than open a bottle of wine - for me, at any rate. It might give me a sugar high, but I don't get a hangover from it!
Good luck with the counselling, Dansmum.
Dizzy, I'm sorry, I totally missed your comment yesterday and now the quotey thing hasn't worked. That sounds like a real bummer of an evening. (((Hugs)))
14/31 please, Shaggy.Better is good enough.0 -
Thank you Honey Bear. He did say something about it again yesterday - worried re: mixing alcohol and meds, using it to block out issues, to avoid making decisions etc. etc. I don't want a drink tonight, but I have just consumed two Cadbury's chocolate dessert/yogurty things with chocolate frogs as a side :rotfl: Sadly higher in calories than wine though!
Anyway, I'll call early - so 7/21 please.0 -
14/31 AFDs for Friday0

(((Hugs))) for you Dizzy. Whatever the reason we drink more than we should sometimes, the issues are still there in the morning but with a hangover as well. It sounds as though you have a lot to deal with, so if you can find a different way of approaching whatever's bothering you, whether it's chocolate or talking to someone who can help you find a way through, that might work. Or both! We can lose weight at a later date. Your OH must love you to let you know he's concerned; twice I've told my OH he was going a bit over the top and he cut down immediately both times, thank goodness.
